I remember my first little league coach assessing our skills to determine what positions to put us. I was the tallest on the team and he started just playing catch with me. Then he started throwing harder to me. Then throwing at my feet and over my head and i caught every one. Coach pointed at me and goes, "1st base. Do any of your sisters take gymnastics?" I said yes and he said, "Have them train you on doing the splits". Best advice I'd ever gotten.

"Do any of your sisters take gymnastics?" Bro, if a coach said that now? 💀💀😯
The Umps ability to see if someone is safe most of the time in just a split second is awesome.

Stretches have been some of my favorite defensive highlights ever since I was a kid watching Mark Grace do his thing at 1st for the Cubs. They are much harder than they look.
To young people watching: Notice runners going out of their way not to cleat guys playing bases, that is how to play baseball! It is a show of respect to the sport and the other players. When someone gets hurt playing baseball it should be an accident baseball is a Gentleman's sport! Many close calls and no one arguing with the umpires. I like that, if your coach thinks you got cheated let him take it up with the officials. Great video!
As a braves fan I can say freeman does this shit all the time and it still amazes me. Hes a great defensive player to go along with his bat. He's worth every damn penny the braves are paying him.
Freeman and Rizzo both do this nicely

The first base stretch has to be one of the most under-appreciated moves in sports.

Freeman is one of the best 1st basemen out there, he's famous for his bat, and his stretch
it truly amazes me how freeman managed to get back to the bag on that first play... not only can he hit but he can really stretch that leg out when need be. love watching the guy play a true sportsman and true blue collar competitor!!!1

top 3 to do this amazingly are Freeman, Rizzo & Duda

Playing first is so weird. I always felt weird there. Its like catching, but with a 8x8 foot strike zone.
What most people don't realize is that all these best stretches is from bad throws so you really don't want this to happen But still these were amazing plays.
Rizzo is a treat to watch xD
right away I was like I know Freddy freeman was gonna be in this
damn those guys are flexible

I feel stupid for not knowing which clip in this video u r referring to
for a good 5 months i worked on getting my splits just so i could be a better first baseman lmaoo
*Clicks on video thinking of Freeman* Sees Freeman pull off a spicy grab on the first clip* Jumps out of window in awe*
always a great job !
Good first basemen are basically gymnasts lol
Rizzo might have been able to more easily tag the runner out.
What’s more impressive sideline catch in football or a good 1st base stretch.
great vid
Watching MLB players do the splits
4:10 the tables have turned 😂
Nice pic sporting videos
My dude profarrr
Not surprised to see the king of double plays in this video aka Billy Butler
yeah the announcers always say nice play by the shortstop or third basemen but they wouldn’t of been able to do it without the first baseman stretch
First base squad represent :)
Freddie freeman is the best at stretches
I'm just starting baseball and if anyone has tips please tell me
Just by watching this video (and I'm not saying I should assess all 1st basement by watching it) there are maybe three players who are really good at this. Some of these "stretches" are "meh" as hell.

I used to catch and play first base I will take catching any day. At least when you catch you have some serious gear. To young people if your coach puts you on first base he is confident in your ability to protect yourself with just a mitt. There is no shame in wearing a batting helmet when playing first base.Safety first.
Come on best plays ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!9
