    I just got off the phone with Cobb and added the DSG tunes. They said when installing these do not let your phone hook up to the radio. It can mess up the process. Just thought I’d share this information.

    Yup also turn off your Bluetooth and don’t close or open your doors while it’s updating. Also with those with push to start DO NOT LEAve YOUR CAR WITH YOUR KEY IN YOUR POCKET !!! This will freak the update out leave it in the car.

    Thanks for the overview! I'd love to see a before and after demonstration of the shift logic in automatic and manual mode. Getting rid of the auto upshifts in manual mode is already a huge thing for me, but improved shift logic in normal automatic would seal the deal. I feel that the car in normal automatic upshifts through the gears a little too early and makes the car feel sluggish. And sport automatic is too aggressive for normal city driving.

    That was the plan originally, but I just did not have the time. I'm still planning on doing a comparison review, probably won't be for a week though. I will say that the Sport Map might be just a bit too aggressive for a normal daily, but I want to get real seat time in all of the modes before I give an actual opinion. I do think OEM + might be the sweet spot for most of us :) Thanks! Rick

    Cool video dude, really thorough and informative. My only concern is I've read about Dash's struggling with remaps and increases in power. Have you or anyone here had issues with clutch slip on the DSG or outright broken gearboxes as a result?

  • @eppyz

    @eppyz

    3 жыл бұрын

    Your not going to get a definite answer on this because it varies so much. Some people can run 400 tq and have no issues while someone else will break something. It really depends on the driver, how the vehicle is maintained so many variables. Can you mess up your gearbox? Yes. Will it slip? It could. Just like any car with a clutch would. You need to know what the limits are and if you surpass them? Then you need to upgrade the clutch packs just like you would upgrade a clutch in a standard manual transmission.

    Really digging the Cobb DSG Tuning Maps on my 2017 GTI SE. This and the COBB ECU Stage 1 with NO MODS has already turned my stock GTI into a beast! The cool thing is I can go back to completely stock before taking it to the dealership. Later, I'll go straight to a Stage 3 IS38 turbo upgrade and the COBB IS38 ECU map will at least allow me to get to a tuner safely ;-)

    Couple questions: it seems a lot of tuning maps throw up flags that show up in diagnostics and can potentially void warranties and service plans. Is this still the case with the included maps, or has a workaround been developed? Also, if I were to flash a DSG tune, will that throw up any flags?

  • @Nelbone

    @Nelbone

    5 жыл бұрын

    Dubbs Quasar the only “tune” that can be hidden are piggyback tunes like JB4. If you’re concerned about warranties don’t modify your car. That being said, if you tune your car and you need to make a warranty claim on your radio for example, you should be covered. If you run an intake but your suspension fails you should be able to make a warranty claim. Voided warranties tend to pertain to parts associated with what has been modified and every dealership responds to this differently. Contact your dealer for the best answer.

  • @rallysportdirect

    @rallysportdirect

    Matt Nelson hit the nail on the head with his answer. Every dealership will be different, so it's always best to speak with them about what they deem "generally okay" in their eyes. And I use the quotes because you could have a car with a bunch of mods, but you baby it and they can see it, and they may cover the costs of repair for you. You can also come in with a bone stock car, 8K miles with a burnt up clutch, no tread on the outside of the tires, 3/4 worn brake pads, and stinking up the shop. They can and probably will deny you warranty due to "abuse". Hope this helps. Thanks, Rick

  • @Nelbone

    @Nelbone

    RallySport Direct I appreciate you agreeing with my response. There’s no 100% perfect answer unless you contact the dealer you go through. I just flashed the DSG tunes last night. Now I’m waiting on my downpipe, intercooler, and DV+ to come in the mail. Then off to get a custom E-tune. Love your vids! Wish I found you guys sooner. Solid material.

    @@Nelbone Thanks for the reply, although I didn't ask whether or not I should tune my car. There's a chance I might say "fuck it," despite the potential void in warranty. I was trying to find out if anyone had found a programming/coding workaround to the TD1 flags, other than a piggyback.

  • @Nelbone

    @Nelbone

    5 жыл бұрын

    Dubbs Quasar piggybacks are the only way as of now. Generally speaking a basic tune from a reputable company won’t really hurt anything as long as you maintain the vehicle properly and don’t beat on it 24/7 and get it to operating temp before sending it.

    The AccessPort is great but Cobb’s OTS maps are notorious for either blowing up motors or just not being all that great. Hopefully MAPerformance it Stratified comes out with DSG tunes.

  • @rallysportdirect

    Cobb seems to have fixed that with their new map updates. Their old maps were pretty aggressive for an OTS map, which im sure some people loved LOL. The new maps still make really impressive power but seem to be much more conservative with their timing. I'll post up a dyno video soon of the Stage 1 map on this car :) Thanks, Rick

    So I’ve been debating on a DSG tune. I don’t have much of a desire to put more HP into the car just yet, but I HATE the OEM DSG tuning and how it races to 6th gear. Like you’re in 5th gear by 32 mph and it constantly lugs the engine... will the cobb access port fix this and keep me in more optimal gearing? (I own a mk7 2017 gti dsg, base model)
