MK4 VW Golf Jeep Suspension Lift[PARTS WALKAROUND]

After searching for information on lifting a MKIV VW Golf and having little luck on solid details, I decided to go ahead and compile a video of the parts I used. This video is all about your VW Lift! Every part that I used to Lift my volkswagen, and every part you will need to lift yours! Turning your VW Into a MallCrawler was relatively easy, but it did come with afew issues along the way. I speak of afew of those issues in this video to help spread the word on how to lift your front wheel drive car! Please comment down below if you have any questions on things I may have missed or didnt clarify on!

    I just did the jeep lift on my 03 beetle, I used the stock struts and rear shocks, got to say it looks good but it's hard as a rock, if some shorter or softer shocks were found for the fronts, then you can fit the stock front shocks in the rear, this will allow about an 1.5" sag so at least you have some travel. As the front was maxed out I went ahead and put the Cherokee shocks on the rear, now it's level but about the only travel is in the tires. One other helpful hint for this, when doing the rear, do both sides at once, having bothe shocks disconnected will allow the rear axle to swing down a bit more freely

  • @JChurchua

    @JChurchua

    I suggest replacing the struts with bilstein B6s or similar, since they have longer travel. Rears as well, the F150 rear shocks provide a lot of travel. I used all new springs and struts/shocks, definitely stiff to begin with but broke in and rides really well. Having the stock shocks will make them over extend regularly and eventualy bust id assume.

    I just bought myself a Seat Leon 1m 20vt4 (Same platform as the mk4 golf, PQ34, but with a Haldex "4-wheel drive" system) and it has too much surface rust and a bit too much bodge repairs to make it look good. Was thinking about maybe doing a lift with crash bar, aux lighting, roof racks and a spare wheel on a contraption at the rear. When you fit the springs on the front shocks did you also have to fit a shaft extender? It feels like it would "bottom out" but in the top part if you have to compress the spring too much. Since mine's 4 wheel drive I'm going to have to figure something out for the rear, but I did see someone here who did it on a mk4 R32 so I might have ideas for that.

    Great vid and I love the look of your golf. Looking to do the same with mine here soon. I currently have the wagon/vr6 spring 2" lift on mine which includes a 1.5" spacer on the front oem strut. On this lift, a spacer isn't necessary?

  • @JChurchua

    @JChurchua

    2 жыл бұрын

    that is correct. The bilstein HDs are longer travel than the OEMs; and the jeep springs are similar spring rate but much taller than the OEM or VR6/wagon euro towing springs/moog. So, the Jeep springs take the place of the spacer too, to achieve a true. suspension lift(and taller than what you have)

    How’s it feel with no front sway bar? Mine sit at factory and a bolt came off connecting sway bar to control arm and the handling on highway was absolutely horrible.

  • @JChurchua

    @JChurchua

    2 жыл бұрын

    I would assume with one bolt off, the bar is twisting forcing pressure on one side and free on the other; thus resulting in an unbalanced reaction. Like a snapped spring or something. For my car, It had no obvious steering difference from day 1, several years ago. So, lots of offroad applications have removed(or temporarily disconnected) sway bars to allow more travel from the axle(or Lower Control Arm in my case) Typically that does not result in messed up geometry.

    Great question. but also an interesting one. Im not sure i have your answer though.... Years ago when the lift was first developed it was only for the 1.9tdi/2.0 because they had no traction assistance. At that time, i think it was UNKNOWN if it would work for the VR6/1.8t with traction control assistance.(Im not sure that it was known to cause problems, but actually was just a procaution from causing problems) Now, you can find lifted 1.8t's and they all have traction control, so, it has to work somehow! I am suspecting you either VCDS shut off the traction control permanently or it works just fine in conjuction with the traction control. I wish i could help more, but here is my opinion on the matter.

    Traction control will not e perience a problem. The potential problem is with stability programs. These use yaw sensors to measure body roll and other things. When you change the geometry, you change the way these force will act and you then need to re-write the response software for how the vehicle will correct itself. The taller you go, the more you change the geometry.

    United States only got a MK4 4motion, R32 Golf. With Haldex you cannot get this kindof lift or height with the R32. Also, an R32 runs over $10K, but a jetta, golf, or bug are $2K-$5K depending condition.

    That is very good advice. These springs were new, and not heated for any purpouse. Thanks Franky.
