MK4 GOLF | clutch slave cylinder install, bushing inspection
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video I install a new clutch slave cylinder and I chase down some remaining shifter slop.
The playlist below had everything I have done to the golf (almost).

Hahaha...Man...two bolts and a hydraulic line....I was drenched when I finished.
I feel you, I fix something in my Mk4 TDI Jetta, and then I have two more projects lined up 😅
Absolutely amazing video. This should work for my 2001 VW Beetle. I believe it's still considered an MK4 and the engine looks identical. Thanks!
i am a former volkswagen technician, these transmissions have a TSB (technical service bulletin) that includes a grind in 1st gear. this TSB was related to a internal problem in the transmission, however it did not happen on ALL transmissions of these years i remember it being the first few years of the MK4 era. i love your videos and hope this isn’t the case for you, best of luck!

Wow!! Thanks!! That makes sense. I have almost exclusively driven manuals since 2005. This is the only one that has given me this kind of trouble. Now it makes sense that it kept getting better but not "completely" gone. I think the last mod I did helped the most. But I'm grind free for two weeks now(mods plus awareness of when it typically grinds). Perhaps I will swap the transmission when I do the clutch.

@@MaqsVids yeah i personally have owned a plethora of mk4s and i can tell you first hand there isn’t a single one that hasn’t grinded first gear. but a little trick that’s worked for me is pop it in second then go into first, it will suprise you on how much smoother first goes in once you do this. try it out and let me know!

@@codysilva8084 hey cody, i was wondering if you could answere a question or two i have about replaceing my 2002 mk4 vr6. Can i follow this video in order to change my clutch slave cylander or is the vr6 built difforently. I saw in a comment of forum that the vr6 requires the transmission to be taken out in order to reach the slave, is that true?

Always curious on why retired technicians watch diy videos on KZread is it like a bring back memories type of deal
Awesome vids. Learning a lot
Huge help, saved me a lot of time 👍🏻
Nice, always loved the mk4s, imo easy to work on
Great video, thanks!!
Great video man.

Man... I should know better. But, there is always something.
Loving these videos! My golf is having the same issues. Just trying to get some knowledge before I try to tackle it!

Thanks! If you haven't already, Check out the video where I replaced the final cable end bushing. If I had to do it all over again, I would start there.
Theres a company called 42 draft designs that makes billet bushing for the linkage, they are solid and provide almost a tight clicky shift. they cost me 40$ i believe
Ideally you want to change that o ring on the hard pipe before pushing it into the new slave cylinder.

Right, surprised they didn't include it with the new slave
Thank you ! :)
This is extremely helpful. I have a 99.5 TDI, still have the 02A but have the same exact grinding issue when going in to first and it’s obnoxious. I bought the dieselgeek bushing kit and it took out all the slop in the shifter mechanism but I think I made a mistake on the front end where the cables connect to the transmission so seeing the last bit of your video made me think I have the same thing happening. I’m anxiously awaiting your next video.

Was thinking same thing. Is the o ring a separate item or is it included with the new S. C.? By the way, thanks for the very good video and tips.
A dieselgeek sigma short-shifter would have taken care of those bushing issues! Thanks for the vids!

Aww man, looks so easy. I have a polo mk4, the slave cylinder is broken, and every new piece I ordered doesn’t fit well, spilling oil where the hose connects. Tried to replace the o ring, tried different brands, but the original cylinder is no longer on sale and it seems that no replacement fits
tengo que cambiar el cilindro esclavo de mi Jetta y es el mismo que el golf. muy buen video

Hey! I am no expert and I have never worked on a MK5. But, I would start with looking at the linkages or cables. There is something not moving properly. Start at the shifter and work your way to the transmission making sure all the components are in place and intact. Good luck
Hola tengo un golf sr cambié hace poco el embrague pero en caliente el motor se pone duro el pedal de embrague que puede ser.gacias...
Entonces puede ser el bombín del embrague..
Is this same process for a 2003 gti 20th anniversary 1.8t 6 speed?

I swapped mine just like you did but I can’t get any fluid to the new master and I can’t get it to bleed
@MaqsVids
Жыл бұрын
Uh oh. Have you had any luck yet? Did all the fluid drain out? Sometimes you have to pump the clutch pedal a lot. I have also seen on forums where people get new ones and they are bad.
@adivarso8175

You need to reverse bleed it to push the trapped air out.
Why didn’t you just clamp the flex hose 🤔 it wouldn’t drip at all.

Clamping the flex line can potentially damage the line, same type as brake line hose and should never be clamped.
what is the part number ? 🙏🏻

@emirhankadpnar1756 the Clutch slave cylinder is vw part #1J0721261J, the cable ends for the shifter are vw part numbers #1J0711761C.
