Mk4 1.8T chip (k03s) Vs A3 1.8T Chip (k04).

Mk4 with big frontal cooler. A3 doesn't have.

    This is a live example of the torque spike problem that you get from swapping a k04 to a 1.8t. While the k04 does spool faster it doesn’t not provide the same airflow across the power band and gives better torque at low end. You can actually make more horse power at higher RPMs with the stock Ko3S but not as much torque. And this is a real world example of this. The k04 1.8t provided more torque for the hit, but the ko3 1.8t was able to pull harder once they were rolling. This is why you should save your money and do a t3/t4 hybrid conversion, your engine will also last longer than a k04 swap.

    Hi to that hybrid conversion, you mean what would be a K03S? I ask you because I have an A4 B5 quattro which I did full turbo maintenance (original, K03) and the person who did the work offered me that solution, to make 2 turbos something hybrid or K03 (or maybe I misunderstood)

    @@diegomoraga7619 a “hybrid” turbo usually is referring to a T3 turbine mated to a T4 compressor. It’s not VW specific. There are VW specific “hybrid” turbos, but those are usually referred to as “Frankensteins” like the F21

    @@diegomoraga7619 Ko3”s” is what came in the Audi TT 225hp. To be honest I don’t know what is different when compared to the standard 150-180hp ko3. From what I know about VW turbos, the compressor wheel is probably different, the body of the turbo is the same for either, so that means something internal is different.

    @@seasondyes1990 any variation of turbo using a t3 sized cold side and a T4 sized hot side… tons of options for sizes to match your engines output and feeding requirements.

    turbo k03s better at low rpm turbo k04 bigger rotor, better at high rpm.

    It’s funny you say that because in reality it’s actually the complete opposite as you can see in the video. The big problem with K04s is they torque spike in low rpm’s, and actually become restrictive at higher rpm. K04s are a waste of time on a 1.8t because the engine makes all its power after 5,500 rpm and that’s exactly where a k04 runs out of air. Don’t waste your time and money on a k04 and just do a t3/t4 hybrid conversion. Your engine will last longer because there is no torque spike like with the k04 and you’ll make insane top end power. At the end of the day the k04 was designed for a 2.0L application with tiny ports in the cylinder head compared to the 1.8t.

    @@aShamelessHigh no anti lag is only keeping the turbo spooled when you’re off throttle. What I’m saying is the k04 is actually restrictive at high rpm.

    same engine, but different turbos, tunning and weight.. i did not check, but i bet audi is heavier..
