Love the video. I'm a visual learner so this is great for reference. Since I live in Georgia, the rear defroster helps a lot. How would I supply power to the rear defroster switch as well?

+Delta Productions If you do it the way I did the rear defroster will still work fine. I just broke one of the wires when I yanked the switch panel out for the video. When done correctly you will have three wires coming together into a joint (node). Those three wires are 1. Defroster, switch side 2. Defroster dash side and 3. Fog light switch wire switch side. Hopefully that makes sense.

What would look cool as an day driving light is when the head lights turn on and open up only 2' inch. But I think that need more than just a few cables changed.

Hi do you know how to test the switch itself? I show no continuity but there seems to be two powers and two grounds on the switch. I'm getting 13.5 volts on one side and 4.2 on another.

I would like to know where I can find the wiring diagram you showed in the video. I can't seem to find a similar layout in the TSRM online. I would just like to get a closer look is all.

You need to look at the TEWD, which is the wiring diagram book for the car. That will have all the wiring layouts. Note that not all years have the same wiring. Each year (and even some changes within 89) had minor changes. I'f you're going to do much wiring I would buy a manual for your exact year.

So your fog lights can't be left on if your ignition is off?

Thanks for the video. I inherited a modded foglight in my 89 Turbo. Oddly enough, the dashboard does not light up unless the fog lights are on as well. So even if the headlights are on, the dashboard/gauge cluster does not light up unless the foglight switch is turned on. Also, once the foglights are turned on, the dashboard lights will again turn off when the high beams are activated. Any idea what could be causing this issue? I'm thinking that whoever did the rewiring must have tapped the wrong ground wire somewhere.

I'm guessing they tapped into the cluster dimmer switch instead of the defroster. The switches are located near each other so that's seems likely. That would give you the behavior you describe. You probably need to get in there and undo their work and start over. Bummer!

Thanks for the video. prior to me getting the car (89 turbo), someone did a similar mod to my fog lights. Unfortunately, the dashboard lights only come with when the fog light switch is on. I need to figure out what they did so can undo it. Not sure if this is tied to the same modification, but the dimmer for the dashboard lights does not have any effect on the brightness of the dash. They are either on or off now only when the fog light switch is on, and the headlights are on. Do you have any suggestion on what to check as I don't believe that your modification works this same way?

Oof, that's tough. You probably need to hunt around to find what they did. If the factory dimmer doesn't do what you expect, I'd check wiring for both the dimmer switch and the fog light switch. I suspect you'll find some modified wires. If it's not obvious there, you'll need to start getting familiar with the wiring diagram book for that year... which is both fun and frustrating.

@Yotamddotcom I've spent the better part of a week getting familiar with the book and wiring trying to find an even bigger problem. It seems like the Main EFI relay in the engine Junction block is not getting a full signal from the ECU, so someone ran a wire from the Ignition fuse in the kick panel all the way to pin 1 of the Main EFI relay. Over time the wire became loose, and the car was having issues under load. Now I have to find out why the original signal is weak sending 1-3 Volts isntead of 12V. I've checked the wires for continuity, and all checks out so far... still hunting.

+Luis Mendoza My guess is that a wire or fuse location is touching a wire it shouldn't. Which exact lights are on? Interior? Parking lights? Headlights?

+YotaMD it was one of the wires that was connected. It's only supposed to be 3 wires connected at the foglight switch. That's where i messed up, but i have them working now. Thank you!

I tried exactly what you said and it fixed something but not what I want. What is happening is the headlights are getting brighter when I flip the switch on but the fog lights themselves aren’t turning on. Any idea what I did wrong?

I have no idea off hand. It sounds like you might have some odd or damaged wiring in the headlight circuit. I can't offer much assistance other than to get familiar with a multimeter and start exploring that wire harness!

@@Yotamddotcom which wire is supposed to get constant power? Is it a wire that’s connected to the relay or a wire that’s connected to a wiring harness? The reason I ask is because there is a red and black wire that’s connected to a wiring harness but no red and black wire connected to the relay

Not a good idea using wire nuts and if you're still in Arizona it's a good idea to just unplug the rear heating element at the back hatch, especially if you have tinted the rear window.

Definitely agree on the wire nuts. If I were to do this today, I'd not use wire nuts. Instead I'd use open barrel terminal butt splices with the proper crimper with heatshrink and electrical tape/loom as needed. Good call!
