Car Explosion, luckily not a Dyno Explosion! The start of an engine rebuild after a racing fail. Yet another Ford Pinto Engine in Penguin Motors!

Very interesting that intake hits, that needs to jump the cam forward and something like two tooth to get contact with that big cutouts. I would suspect somebody after you has changed the belt. If it was exhausts then belt skipping would make sense. Interesting rocker arm geometry change, did play with it back in the day…

I have a 1980 pinto with a 2300 got it in 07 in high school. It's a tough car. I just did a bore new pistons cuz it burned oil. I was really hard on it up on the logging roads in oregon but now it runs better than it ever has the 4 speed and I have a lsd rear in in it

If you are talking about the 1980 american Ford Pinto car then the engine is not the same as this one. In the UK this engine got the Pinto name, it is unrelated to the car. Your car would have the 2.3L lima engine which is good but not the same as this one.

Monster Engine. Incredible how long these engines will take abuse if built correctly. Interesting how the head is a modified 1600. Years ago I fitted a stock 1.6 head to the 2.0 in the Capri thinking it would increase performance. I was wrong. Far too much compression for the setup. Live and learn! Looking forward to the rebuild.

The 1600 head has a shallower combustion chamber, that give two benefits, firstly more compression secondly more material in the short turn of the inlet port

@@PenguinMotors Interesting. Isn't the geometry of the valve train out of whack on the 1600 head as well? I had an FR32 in it and I seem to remember it contacted the lower end of the follower pad so wasn't giving the quoted lift figures.

Great vid. Is there a twin cam head that can be retrofitted to the pinto without major machining works? I've got an old pinto that's in a Locost that I am currently converting to bike carbs. Couldn't believe how heavy the cast iron head is. One of the main reasons I am sticking with the pinto anchor is because of the no valve to piston contact if it all goes wrong. Keep up the great vids.

Yes a couple of options a Warrier head from Connaught which works really well but isn’t cheap, or Sierra cosworth YB head, but the cosworth is an expensive upgrade for not much more power. reference valve to piston clearance, once you fit modified cams the valves WILL hit the pistons if a belt breaks
