Monkey King DOES care about his friends. But his oldest friends are gone now. And he is still learning to let new people in. Especially since he keeps making mistakes that wind up hurting those around him. He knows that he has been cocky in the past. That's why he is trying to protect everyone. Plus, the Monkey King started his journey on his own. Hatched from a stone with no parents or people to teach him how to control his powers. All he had was himself at the start and his self-confidence. He eventually got instructors to teach him how to do all the amazing things he can, but that wasn't until he was almost fully grown. Monkey King knows that he has hurt people who were close to him. So he is distancing himself from others to prevent any more harm from coming others way.

YES that's exactly it! it's not that he *doesn't* care, he does, but he doesn't know what to do with that care. in the past he was just silly and lived by his own rules, which unintentionally caused harm, and now he's trying to undo it, but can't figure out how, so he just isolates himself by not letting new friends in instead to avoid causing more harm. which also... causes harm... man everyone needs therapy in this show

The golden cicada flying in during Tang's explaination was so good

This is kind of what makes Wukong in this series interesting. Everyone holds him up as this hero, and even he might see himself as such, but that doesn't make him one. Even in his legends, he's as much a trouble maker as he is a saviour. In the Amnesia Rules episode, he even seems aware that he'd make a terrible mentor. But here he is, having taken on a leadership role. He's a mentor to MK. He's taken all these people on as his own responsibility. And he's bad at it. He's confronted with his mistake, and having to come to terms with that. That, even immortal and ancient as he is, his actions have consequences. That little look he gives Macaque speaks volumes. MK would never abandon his best friend. Would Wukong do the same? Maybe he doesn't know.

The scene is about Mei but everyone keeps talking about literally anything but Mei,lol

It depends on which scene is being shown. Here the focus is other characters not mei. Besides when she was mad at wukong ofcourse

Also during the Spider Queen special episode, when the city was attacked, Mk responded immediately with something like; "The city is in danger!" while Monkey King said; "Oh no the fireworks!". Monkey King does care about protecting people but it's not his priority it seems.

I think why Wukong picked MK as a successor is because he wanted to rekindle his love of humanity again. Especially since as an immortal he has forgotten why humanity is important to him.

Actually, one of monkey king's coping mechanisms is hiding behind humor. This is confirmed at the end of season 3, when he responds "me too" to MK saying he sometimes plays dumb to lighten the mood. Monkey King DOES care, he just tends to obfuscate stupidity to lighten the mood.

I like that it was Tang who stopped Monkey King from killing Macaque.

If you put on captions tang says “I mean yeah my cat forced me to do it” in stead of macaque

I read the book. The Golden Cicada is the name of transcendent being that has practiced self-cultivation for so many incarnations that it built up a massive spiritual power. Tripitaka, the leader of the original pilgrims was its its previous incarnation, and got into a lot of trouble because demons wanted to eat him so they could live for eons. It seems that Tang is the latest incarnation of the Golden Cicada.

Macaque does care but because of his pride and stuff he always manages to ruin a relationship. which is why he doesn't like getting too close to ppl now.

I kinda disagree,cuz we all know who has a higher pride (at least at the exterior) and lost a lot of friends. I think it's more like he's looking for his own safety.After his remaining best friend killed him,he's all alone in the world and basically his first thought was just vengeance.He almost has no reason to put trust in Wukong and a bunch of strangers he met yesterday.Which is...still not an excuse to psychologically torture a kid & kidnap his family

Why nobody mentioning the *GOLDEN FUCKIN CICADA?!!*

Desperately telling myself every fan interpretation of a character is valid, it doesn’t genuinely impress me how people refuse to read In between the lines of a character that clearly hides behind masks of humor and has trouble letting people in due to past experiences of all his friends being dead or having abandoned him in some form, and him having hurt them in some way being a major reason of why he didn’t want Mk and co. To get involved in the first place. You know, thats why he said “you’re not going, I’M going!” At the very beginning of the journey and all, because he didn’t want them to get hurt-

After Monkey King was captured by the Celestial Realm Lao Tzu said to but him in the Tri gram furnace /Brassiere of 8 trigrams to kill Monkey King and remove the Immortality from his body but after that didn't work And gave him new glowing eyes But the Samadhi Fire/ The True Fire of Samadhi is way powerful than the Tri gram Furnace and it almost killed Monkey King like nezha said water can't put the fire out 0:03
