Japanese singer-songwriter and guitar virtuoso Miyavi struts his percussive chops on a hollowbody electric-acoustic Taylor T5 in the Taylor Guitars showcase room at the 2013 Winter NAMM Show. Miyavi and drummer Bobo unleash an amped-up techno-funk groove on his hit tune, "What's My Name?"

His vocal abilities and technique are amazing, his voice is most of the times in tune. I can say this because I was in a chorus. It's a whole different situation to tell whether you like it or not. Personally, I love it. SUCH A GREAT ARTIST MAN, I LOVE YOU!

Hawt. DAY-YUM. His English got pretty damn good! In his earlier days, I couldn't hardly understand two words but I could figure it out. He covered "Hit The Road, Jack" and that's what really hooked me.

I keep coming back to these Taylor clips over and over again. He's always amazing, but I love him the most when all the focus is on his skills with the guitar and the whole show is toned down. Just saw him live in Helsinki the other day and it was absolutely SUPER - but sometimes it's sad when his talent gets a bit overshadowed by his hot looks and the pop package. (Not that I complain about that, either... hmm...) The shrieking horny teen-girl crowd kind of brings the wrong first impression to people not familiar with him... But on the other side; I've noticed that he seems to inspire the pop-chicks to discover other things to his (and others') music than just catchy choruses and hot looks. And really--you gotta be close to a genius to be able to mix, not to speak of actually mesh, all the styles and influences he throws into his music. Not to speak of the fact that he's rather unique in the fact that he got big with huge focus on his playing, rather than just the songs themselves. I can't come up with many big names that are actually "guitarists accompanied by tunes" and not the other way around--"singers/bands who are ALSO good guitarists..." The polar opposites in his audience are really unusual--on one hand the young girls going nuts about the pop-aspects of his artistry, on the other hand the guitar freaks ooohhing and aahhhing over his sick style --both parties loving him. That's pretty damn cool. And hard to pull off. For me, he's pretty much the ideal artist. My taste is extremely broad and therefore, Miyavi never, ever bores me. Even the songs that I don't particularly love as a whole, catch my interest in one way or another. Cross-kitchen cooking by the mad scientist of music. His live is one of the best I've seen in terms of artistry as well--and I've seen quite a few hundred in my life. I spent quite a huge part of my strained budget on travelling to another country just to see him live the other day--and it was worth every penny even if I might have to live on noodles for a month... lol...
