MIXING THE PERFECT ROSE YELLOW!? (learning to acrylic paint better)

Ойын-сауық

Is Gold the Perfect Yellow?! 🤭
Continuing my Acrylic Painting Journey! Thought I might try drawing something a lot larger so that there would be larger planes and surfaces of an object to paint. I chose a rose which probably wasn't the smartest for this particular scheme but I tried my best! Yellow Roses are one of my favorite flowers. 💛

Something that helped me a TON with color mixing was watching Oto Kano's color theory videos. She works in watercolor, but her lesson on 'split primaries' has changed the way i use any mixable medium. Its why you liked using magenta over red with your particular shade of yellow. I personally like to print out my references when I'm painting a study to get my colours right because you can, not only compare the paint you have on the brush to the print, but also you can put paint on the paper with the reference to see if it actually matches. It works for me, so maybe you could try it. Its much easier since your eyes don't have to remember the colour you just saw and try to replicate it. Love you and your videos always bring me joy! ♡

@drawingwiffwaffles I just wanted to say that I am thoroughly enjoying this series of videos where you are working on improving your painting. Not only is it really useful for those of us that are also learning but it is kind of a relief to see an artist in an area/with a medium that is out of their comfort zone. Your sketching work and character creation (especially when it comes to cute girl characters) is incredible and I love watching you draw them but it can be frustrating at times to try it myself, copy what you do in a video and have it turn out like it was drawn by a drunken toddler 🤣🤣 Seeing artists you admire actually learn a skill that is fairly new to them or not their go-to medium etc helps us to realise that you didn't just pop out of the womb holding a sketchbook and pencil and draw a cute portrait of your mother's midwife 😂😂 Sometimes it's easy to forget that art is a process of learning and that it includes drunken toddler drawings, ill-proportioned figures and off-centre Rose stems 😉 and that even the most wonderful artists all started at the beginning. Have you tried using gouache instead of acrylics? They can be reactivated with water like a watercolour paint but have the opacity of acrylic paint so there isn't that time constraint of using the colour before it dries and having to try and mix the same shade again. The Himi jelly gouache paints are a lot of fun but they also come in tubes like other types of paint. Another solution is to get a "stay wet" palette which have a foam layer that you wet under the tap and put in the bottom of your palette and a piece of weird paper (like a cross between photo paper and Yuppo paper for alcohol inks that is smooth and kinda slippery and stays damp) that you put on top of the foam and use as your palette. Both parts are reusable but need replacing every so often and it keeps acrylic paints from drying out for a long time. These suggestions (gouache and palette) should help you do what you wanted to do with regards to keeping your mixed tones/hues in some kind of order. I know it isn't the vibrant yellow rose you were aiming for but it looks great! Those peachy coloured roses are so beautiful! Great job!

RIN! Wonderful painting! I love seeing you branching out and creating traditional art projects! I painted for years without understanding color mixing or color theory! I made the most progress painting with watercolor paint. If you use good cotton paper you can use both sides and you can tryout so many different ways of mixing and layering, kinda like layers digitally! If you are not concerned about cost of canvas you can try acrylics thinned out and paint in light layers too! If you want to re-use your canvas just re-apply a coat of gesso! I hope you continue to create traditional art and record your process to show your viewers how you are doing! I believe that you are doing wonderfully! See you next video!

Thank you so much for showing this entire process! Acrylics or painting in general scares me, but watching you making "mistakes," and fixing it gives me confidence. Like, it's fine to make mistakes bc it's easy to just plop more paint over until it's what I really want. I don't know why I was letting the fear keep me from even starting.... Thank you so much. 💓

Love being able to watch the process! Like a clueless master at work haha. One thing my art teacher had us do was make a color sheet where we mixed every color with another color of paint we have. It was a pain to do but now I know what paints to mix to get a specific green I like

I have just came across your account again for the first time in years, you are the person who inspired me to draw, your the person who thought me how to love my art. I really have missed you, though the chances are low of you seeing this, there still is a chance. Thank you for being you.

When you go “that made a huge difference!” Around 8:15, it so did! Like night and day! I love seeing you paint cause it reassures me that all paintings go through rough layouts, you can pop out a painting like a printer does lmao

Beautiful work! I think you'd enjoy trying a glazing technique. Basically you paint it grayscale (or sepia and white) then you apply all the color through washes of glaze. You mix whatever color with a varnish or glaze medium then it makes the paint nice and translucent.

I’ve found when I paint with yellow it helps to just not even use white rather to use a dark brown red to make your dark tones and than use your yellow to make your lighter tones it helps the yellow not be as muddy and stay clear and sharp
