Do you do this with cues from a stage manager, or do you memorise and muddle through?

HI. I never use comms to a stage manager during a show. Once each act starts, I take cues from dialogue, music or stage action. Occasionally some venues have a cue light system to give me a standby and go for a cue, but that is very rare.

@@dorydoesdrawing4804 maybe try volunteering at a community theatre and learning from the sound people. From there, you can gauge whether you really want to pursue sound as a career. Other pathways are via paid courses at universities. I was self taught, as I picked up techniques quickly and fairly much started mixing shows straight out of high school by jumping in the deep end!
