If you're new to mixing, you've likely heard terms like "sibilance" thrown around that leave you confused. In this video, I clearly define sibilance, provide audio examples, and recommend de-esser plugins to tame it.
Sibilance refers to overly prominent "S" and "T" sounds that can make vocals sound piercing. Certain mics and mouth shapes exaggerate it. The solution is using a de-esser, which is dynamic EQ that compresses those frequencies.
I highlight top de-esser plugins from Waves, Harrison and others. Overdoing de-essing leads to a "lispy" sound so a light touch is key! Master this fundamental mixing concept and crucial vocabulary. Let me know other terms you want explained.
