In order for an A/B comparison like this to be effective, the two states being compared (eg engaged & bypassed) must be switched as quickly as possible and without pause or interruption.

Oh man... listening here with my Neumann NHD 20 headphones I can FEEL that old vinyl emotion (there's no other way to describe it - I'm 61 and I grew up with vinyl for the longest time).. this somehow recreates that. Unlike many younger folk who may not have that memory and emotion, once you hit the Vinyl plugin in its various settings my heart skips a Huge beat... No idea what it is. Just does. I have lived so long now in the digital world now with my recording, composing for stage, album and film... this surprised me emotionally and sonically... It's a great option to have. Geoff Pesche mastered my last 2016 album at Abbey Road so I was fascinated by this and wanted to see what the hype's about. Well, it's real... so real that it wakes/shakes my memory... that's a good test surely. Thanks for this Dave Darlington... Mark Chan Singapore

I bought this program but didn’t use it and just let it sit in my computer for about a year. Been experimenting with it now that I have my new studio set up. I absolutely love this! It doesn’t sound like anything else. It’s not quite a compressor, and it’s not quite tape. Now I get why people love the sound of vinyl albums so much. It brings everything together and gives your mix a warm “human” character, Like listening to your music in a club. I plan to be using this a lot when I want that vintage sound in my mixes.

You know, as a little kid, I remember seeing a Beatles documentary & just seeing them track those classic records has always etched a love for music production in my mind..It's amazing now that that same power is available to some extent in my own studio through Waves. Shoutout to Waves & Abbey Road Studios & EMI for this Project!

what a fantastic lesson from a fantastic teacher - I not only learned about the plugin itself but also the history and the behinds the scenes processes related to vinyl. it is so much of a richer education than a step-by-step only interested in the final product, e.g. learning the tendencies of a physical vinyl and how that became a useful feature of its own, etc. thank you so much for this!

Me too - I also love the often found gain differences too. My Utopia is to have the demo bypassed for 2.7 seconds and then active for 1 minute. If there could be an announcement like: "and bypassed" at the specific moment of clicking, I would probably have to get up and spend a few minutes in the bathroom. That said - I find it interesting the past is not the past. It's quite a smooth plugin.

There are a ton of tape plug-ins that all seem to shine in different ways, but this vinyl plug-in seems to be unique. It's not something you're going to use on everything but when you need it boy is it good at what it does. I was trying to get some old-school brass hits a couple weeks ago and everything I tried either made them too bright or too lifeless. A little vinyl emulation was able to make them pop right out of the mix without sounding like needles through my eardrums, especially once they went through master bus compression. It's definitely worth demoing on a few different scenarios.

This is the slickest thing Waves has ever released as far as I'm concerned. Had it since it was released. Wishlist for this is parallel wet/dry mix with phase matching to nullify the wow and drift and modulation options for the tonearm say an LFO to assign some movement to the tonearm itself. A V2 would be awesome for this. That and maybe implementing something like the SKnote cutter functionality which I also have into it as well. Used to DJ bass music on vinyl and the experience is lost on newer listeners. This puts a lot of that type of funk back into a mix. A copper vs nickel plating option as well to emulate the different plating techniques and sonic alterations of those would be icing on the cake as well as these affect the general aura of a vinyl process as well but that's maybe excessive.

OK, nice demo, but you can't play one example, and then pause, talk, then play another example, and expect to fully hear the difference. You HAVE to A B in quick succession to hear the subtle nuances, of a plugin of this nature. I am a mastering engineer, and it's "in out" back and forth with eyes closed that allows you to hear the subtle differences between the changes made. Love your enthusiasm, but I will have to demo this one for myself, as I cannot efficiently evaluate the nuances from your demo. No disrespect intended, but if you're going to take the time to make a video of a plugin intended for mastering, you can't listen to instance of the signal chain, take a slight break, and then listen to another, and make a fair comparison. Still, I appreciate your effort and intention.

You would leave this plugin out of your master if you're printing to vinyl. The real vinyl would impart the characteristics you're after. You could still use some effects of the plugin, I'm sure, but you probably wouldn't want to add the crackle and noise as an effect if you're cutting real vinyl.

I thought the song sounded better with the plugin bypassed every time. Listening through my HD800's the stereo width and separation got lessened and just a lot of information was lost. It sounded overall a lot less open with the plugin engaged. May be useful for individual tracks but for a whole mix I couldn't see myself finding it complimentary. Very comprehensive video though, well done.

I used to think that, was a big S1 fan from V2 into V3. Then I got Pro Tools 12 HD with ICON and never looked back. FTR all those fast/quick things in S1 are/were already in PT but hidden behind keyboard shortcuts (Shift, alt, windows, ctrl) things like assigning multi outputs at once (to loads of selected tracks), inserting plugs in multi tracks, bypassing all plugs, selected plugs, plugs only in slot 2 etc.. .this is ALL actually far faster than S1 once you know it. Even setting up busses/auxes is very quick (not drag/drop and auto setup no BUT it's actually very powerful/flexible as it is in PT and takes seconds once you're used to it aand then select tracks - hold keys - assign bus to all selected tracks). Audio editing is even MORE fast in PT vs S1, again some keyboard stuff is super rapid for copy to cursor pos etc. Automation (inc practice, snapshots and much more is not only more advanced in PT but faster to use esp with the amazing D-Command/ICON surface - S1 has nothing even close to that kind of hardware - CS18ai is trash, faderport 8/16 is a toy and studio live 24/32 is a joke vs a real analog feeling mixer like D-Command - hey it cost £12-£24k on release but you can pick them up cheap now for £1500 for main unit - worth it). Lastly, the mixing is MUCH faster and clearer in PT, with or without hardware control mixer, because you get that amazing overall workview of ALL inserts/sends at once on screen and you can mix from the edit window, no need for the 'mix window' at all. In S1 you have to do half of it in the mixer and loads of left/right scrolling, can never see all inserts/plugs at once. Believe me I was a raving fanboy for studio one (coming from cubase which S1 destroys) but after PT I realised I'd been an inverse snob all my life assuming it was old fashioned and lacking vs S1, but actually it's far better except for drag drop but I barely even touch anything like that using D-Command anyway - much better. Freeze also works better in PT to freeze a track and unfreeze, inc just up to a certain plug-in, and rapid to do/undo. Bouncing is also much faster then S1, CPU usage is better than S1 and frankly my mixes sound much better in PT (probably because I use 'heat' which is like console shaper in S1 but tape - and BETTER). That is why I use PT and why people have continued to use it, HD version, 12+ is as good now as anything out there for audio, recording, editing... it only lacks a bit in MIDI (but so does S1 vs cubase) but more than good enough for most needs. Oh and PT never crackles or locks up, S1 would crackle opening a browser etc (am on an 8700k here!) but PT is solid. Long reply but hopefully will put questions like this to rest. All that glitters is not gold, S1 has a long way to go to surpass the actual mixing workflow of PT 12 HD/2018. S1 has a lot of cool ideas but nothing that really is needed for proper mixing, just 'nice to have'. PT is just more powerful.. .when you know how, and why.

If I want Vinyl (and I do), I'll buy it! Do I wand a CD that "sounds" like vinyl? Sure thing... that's why I have a $2000 turntable...

Well, cd is a digital format and it doesn't really add any colour or warmth to the sound, therefore it'd be kind of pointless to emulate a CD burner

Waves like your wallet with your money. Be careful always ask yourself do u really need that. We're going digital so accept that and move on leave the past behind. Some said vinyl is more clearer than digital, but I don't think so. It could be that vinyl records sound more natural but not clearer. So choice is yours I stick with digital
