MixFader x DVS (with Serato 7" Vinyl & Vestax Handytrax) Demo

A few weeks back I did a little demo of the Mixfader , a bluetooth crossfader that let you scratch with nothing else than an iPad or an iPhone.
Well, the crossfader showed no latency at all, and it's one of the best crossfader you can get on the market right now especially for scratching, and I had a lot of fun using it with my iPad. The only problem that is on the iPad side, it's not super ideal to scratch on the iPad, and you fingers become pretty sticky after a while, so it's a lot of fun, but not really usable for a professional performance.
But there is an other possibility: plug a turntable to the iPad and then you can really have a lot of fun. You can plug a Technics MKII or any turntable if you want and use control vinyls like Serato or Traktor ones to send timecode information to the edjing Scratch app
But since for me, I thing it's a portable solution that let you scratch wherever you want (On the road at the beach, at some friends, on the streets ;-)), I decided to use the Vestax Handytrax!
So, all you need is:
- a mixfader: www.themixfader.com
- a tablet: any iPad or Android tablet works
- the edjing Edjing Scratch app: free on the App Store or Google Play
- a RCA to USB soundcard: there's ton of cheap ones on Amazon, I did get a V.TOP to less than $15: www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00X...

- a 7" Serato Control vinyl /// well Serato does not produce them anymore, I know some people create them themselves from a 12" and some cutter skills, but I found a website that do sell homemade ones from Open Format: openformat.la/shop/serato-cont...

That's it, that's all. I have a lot of fun using the MixFader in DVS mode, there's a lot of possibility. With just my iPad I have access to my whole music library, so possibilities are endless!

Cool video! Thanks for the detailed description and list with links super helpful. Don't seem to find the app you are using though. I can find similar on the app store by same company but not one that looks like that or that is called scratch. Anyway thanks again. Really interesting stuff!!

Great video and great set up, however i have a question: can you use the fader included in the numark pt01 instead of the mixfader?

Really cool cuts! ..with clear explanations aswell ! I have a question : I see that serato vinyls available on openformat.la are CV02.5. However Mixfader company seems to communicate on the CV02 compatibility only. Is there issue using more recent serato vinyl version? Thanks by advance !

can you use the one deck for the left and right signal on djing software (mix live with one deck, switching the deck from L to R virtual fader)?
Dude i've same config but dvs dont works when i spin the serato nothing happened in software, mixfader is sync, the app said she reconize the turntable but nothing hppened when i spin the vinyl..

I Checked the openformat site out. Do the 7" Serato performance series black record work with this setup? Its only $30.00 for 2 records.

Can run one track on one iPad, another track on another iPad and connect to a physical mixer? And can I send midi clock data? I have midi i|o ports on my audio interfaces.

Hi awesome setup! I would really appreciate it if you could help me. I have the same gear but I don't know what is needed to make it work. Are you going from the rca or the USB? What adapters are you using? Please and thanks so much

is the beat also from the app or do you have to hook up a second iphone or ipod with a looper? that would be kinda inconvenient...

Hy Man! I just saw your video and I loved it so much, that I organized almost the same setup! But saddly, it's not working.. My Setup is like: Mixfader, Handytraks, some 10inch Serato vinyls, a ezcap usb Audio Capture Soundcard, a mini ipad and a lightning to usb-cable. So, i tried to connect the soundcard with the mini Jack into the line in from the vestax and the usb to the lightning adapter. Then i started the edjing app and it looks like it would recognize the dvs option - i've said serato and activate. Then it started in a cue-display. I've gone to the Scratch view, but it's not working.. do you know where the problem is? Thank you very much for your help!!! Cheers

So can you record your scratches? Through the app? Also do you need the mixfader, or can you just use the fader on the turntable?

Would this work with traktor control vinyl and a traktor souncard to control traktor on a pc?

yes it does work with tractor vinyls, about the tractor soundcards, I am not sure

this is what I dig man, nice cutz yo... want to buy a mixfader , hook it with my ipod touch 6g and audio technica lp1240usb... can edjing app be compared scratch wise with traktor or serato regarding latency?? I know there's not that much features and possibilities with it...

I have samsung galaxy s5, which seems to be good enough to run this but i doesnt run smooth. When I change from deck A to deck B while playing music you can clearly hear stop/pops or whatever you call it sound and I have no more than 30-40 songs on my phone. I found out when you do slow scratches it has some latency which is ok for toy like this. When you try scratching faster then the picture on your phone is out of sync with the sound, so maybe it's better not to watch the screen. On Asus MemoPad 7 this thing doesn't work at all, so keep in mind. Maybe on iphone it's ok, gotta try it. My biggest disappointment comes from the company itself. I have the feeling then don't want to reply to my emails or atleast their customer service is poor at all. Wrote them a lot of emails and no reply.

feeling bad for you man, but have in mind that iOS handles real time audio wwaaaaaay more better then Android phones... Hope they update it soon so that Android flagships can catch up with iOS...

Where does audio come out of? I noticed there’s no audio output out of the iPad.

I recorded the sound internally, then sync the audio and video afterwards ;-)
