    Oh Cat, your video was giving my goose bumps, mini bumps!! I'm most always thrilled to see tea, coffee or rust dyeing! But your right, your recipe has a different twist to it. This seriously is like unwrapping Christmas gifts in July! Wondering if you have ever tried this technique with strong, strong coffee? I know some peeps just can't take that coffee smell afterwards. I LOVED the way some of those patterns just came thru and printed themselves! What a terrific project! I Thank you and Don for this tute. You crazy kids have a scrumptious time in Europe! I just know your going to come back home with creative ideas, ephemera, and what nots, up the wazoo!! ;)

    I dug out my box of rit dye and tried your bundle/wick method for my doll clothes. It turned out awesome! I missed the window to heat set it (in the microwave) and it STILL set a deep rich color after multiple scrubbings with detergent. In the meantime, I opened your channel and let it play while I did whatever crafty work needed to be done. I get such creative vibe from you even the monotonous things were fun again. You'd would be so good at teaching full courses.

    This was so interesting, Cat. I would have thought that the fabric that stayed in the tea would absorb more of it and, therefore, be the darker color. I used to dye wool for rug hooking purposes and what stayed in the bath longer turned out darker so this is very interesting. I wonder if it's some sort of chemical interaction with the air! Eager to try some now!

    Cat, I know this is an older vid, but I'm often re watching a lot of your amazing work over 'n over again! What seems rather strange to me is, why is it, that the tea stained pieces you hang over the edge, end up a darker dye? And the bundles that are left soaking in the tea for much longer can be much lighter in color? I would think just the opposite would happen. And another weird but frustrating Q I have, I did something like this, maybe a year ago, but used coffee as my stain. I decided to leave the bundles in for oh, maybe 5 to 7 days, and yuck, I started to see mold growing on the bundles!! How did you keep this mess from happening with these tea bundles? Any thoughts you have, are mucho appreciated! Thanks so very much.

  • @CaterinaGiglio

    @CaterinaGiglio

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Lynn! First!! Thanks for watching our vids!! We so appreciate it!! I think .. not sure 🤔 but think that the pieces out of the dye, stain darker because they dry faster.. I left the bundles soaking so I would get the lace to pattern the other fabrics.. I knew that some of the pieces sitting in the tea bath wouldn’t be as dark.. but that was ok. It isn’t the soaking that darkens, it’s the drying process.. 🙃sounds crazy.. I KNOW but I have tried it with tea, coffee and veg and fruit stains..all the same. The mold happens if left too long and in the right conditions. In some places.. like Florida 🤨mold grows quickly so monitoring the batch and taking them out and turning them or drying by hair dryer is recommended. If I missed something… let me know! 😘

    What would happen if you rinsed the pieces in water that has a splash of vinegar in it. This neutralises bleach to stop it eating the fabric. It also softens painted dyed textiles. I imagine, if the colour holds, it would stop the tea eating through the fabric over time.
