Many of us (old guys) that remember the level of aircraft built by Japan prior to, and in the beginning of WW2 showed the USA just how far they lagged behind in a pure fighter design so I would say that they have never swayed from looking for perfection, and I am proud to be their friends with a personal connection to them. Thanks for sharing

I have always wondered what Japan would be able to accomplish in modern aviation. Their aircraft engineers in WW2 were some of the best in the world and so were their pilots. If Japan decides to make a concerted move toward the development of a modern aviation industry I, for one, can't wait to see what they come up with.

  • @justforever96

Winking Walrus F-2 is to F-16 what super hornet is to the regular hornet. It’s bigger, heavier, a bit faster, and a bit less maneuverable. In terms of sensor capability it’s about the same as F-16C block 50/52. It’s a more versatile multi role aircraft designed more to augment their F-15s since they opted not to buy F-15E strike eagle and therefor were lacking in a heavy multi-role fighter.

Even after dropping 2 atomic bombs on civilians, one of the most infamous war crimes in history. Bombing civilians is what the US government does best, bombing German cities in ww2, dropping atomic bombs in Japan, helping Israel burn People alive in the Middle East with white phosphorus, among other war crimes. Because the F35 is a general purpose fighter meant to do all roles with decent ability and the US is not and will not export its own air superiority fighter. Think of it in terms of cars. The us only exports SUVs, Japan does not need many SUV's because they are not allowed to go off roading outside their own land. They want a race car but their main car supplier, the us, does not let it's race cars leave the country. So Japan develops its own specialized racing car because it needs much more of those than it does SUVs There is no 'frustration' that is editorializing and untrue. It is the way things are and is accepted by Japan because it is the way things were always going to be once the United States phased out their older export fighters.

So no country won't ever purchase a Japanese fighter or tank or military vehicle - because some other country will lose a lot of money for their own military products and they won't accept that. Secondly, Mitsubishi heavy industries never ceased it's work so it cannot be a 'return'. Third, this is ABSOLUTELY NOT the empire rebuilding itself. If it was, they would be purchasing the ground attack capable F35's in greater numbers. This is modern Japan modernizing it's *air defense* force. The self-repairing feature is nothing new at all. Fighters like the F-18 in the 70s had it. The Eurofighter has spoken an awful lot about it. Most aircraft self-monitor, especially the electronics and the control surfaces. This system simply checks the control surfaces and uses others for control if one of them is unavailable. For example having canards and rear flaps, the Eurofighter would restrict the use of flaps for excess lift and use them for pitch control if the canards stop working. The "experimental" fly by opitcs has been in use for decades in a few specific airliners and has shown itself to be excellent plus the conventional electronic servos are already in service (and no, they weren't vunerable to EMPs, even airliners are able to take lightning strikes just fine), the advantage of fly by optics is minimal. It's still an amazing aircraft and I have no doubt that it will be among the top 5th gen fighters, but its there for its conventional capabilities not the marketing fluff pretending old technology is new.

Knowing how concept aircraft go, there will be some changes to the airframe and possibly the thrust vectors. More than likely you will see it being a single seater, reason it's a 2 seater is the second seat collects data and tests experimental systems. The nozzles will change, the ones they are using now are cheaper to produce and since this is in "skunkworks" they are making sure the airframe can handle 3D nozzles before actually using them. Remember the X-29? Same thrust vectors and the evidence this is the case is the empty unused space between the frame and the engine exhaust. More than likely will use the 360 nozzle vectors and possibly a different engine. The airframe itself looks like a combination of the F-15, F-22 and a touch of F-2. Also Japan modifies US fighters to fit their needs, The F-2 has a longer wingspan than the F-16 and has a modified/ upgraded cockpit. The Cockpit is a combination of the F-16 and F-15E and the F-2's role is multirole, anti air, anti ship and can be used for long range anti ground ( Sam sites ).

That was the whole point of the project. It's analogous to the YF-22 project in the 80's in that regard.

You know when it comes to Japanese and new and state of the art Electronics theres no comparison so it will be very interesting to see the electronic warefare and active self protection systems as well as the stealth combination of this aircraft it will definitely be more modern and more cutting edge then the F22, J20 and SU57 obv F35 is not in the same class its low grade cheap stealth.

I like the active stealth system. If it works, the plane doesn't have to be fully designed for stealth.
