It was 2013. The Montero was one of my Dad’s dream cars. One day out of nowhere he got home a 2008 Montero 3.2 inline four DI-D GLS and told me that this is our new car. Before the Montero we were using the Pajero so it was a very good, logical and progressive replacement. I loved the car at the first site. As I sat inside I was completely amazed with the quality of interiors and the huge size of the SUV. Eventually when I grew up and drove it, I came to know the real life feel and capabilities of it. It used to feel like the King of the road. Not just road, the Montero could go anywhere. It is till date one of the best off-roaders in the world. It is tough and indestructible. We still have it. I agree that it is too expensive and 70 lakh is way too much for it. If you are a fan of large capable and true SUVs then don’t look anywhere else than the Montero. You’ll find couple of them in the used car market. The maintenance and spares are on the pricier side but you will not regret owning one because every driving experience behind the wheel is one of it’s kind. And to sum it up, please do not consider this as a seven seater. The third row is so small that even kids find it uncomfortable. So just put down the third row and it’s a very comfortable 4/5 seater. This was my experience with the Montero over the last 7 years. We do not plan to sell it anytime soon.

For every idiots blaming the price and comparing it with endeavour fortuner etc. Montero is not their category. Its the land cruiser category. Montero has its class and also there are buyers who know the car. The price is a little higher because its directly sent here from japan after manufacturing. Its a real japanese product and not made in India

This car has legendary bullet proof status around the world. They still sell this car here in Australia and there are plenty on the road. Very good car and reliable engine.

Its really sad that We don't have this beast for sale in India. In absence of any other true blue SUV , Toyota has monopoly and really encashing on it by having ridiculous pricing.

very well put together n comprehensive review.

Pajero 4 is a solid vehicle and the best in its class especially for off-roading. I drove it across countries in a week of 5000kms with 0 issues. I drive in stock car, and changes tyres and shocks/bushes every 2 years (due to my driving style :) ). Last year i tried ironman shocks without lifting. the car has crossed 600.000 kms and still doing good. Very comfortable in long journey. And excellent safety features in par or superior to land cruiser. The automatic transmission and the engine is pretty solid... and the very reason they still manage to sell this product almost after 10 years of its launch shows how good this make is.

Believe me it's really comfortable (I own a 3.8l pajero).

Nice review Sherman, Sad the price point in India doesnt really do Justice to its actual crendtials as a capable off-roader and Family hauler. Very informative. Looking forward for more of your reviews.

yea comes with many electrovic assistants ..wished the 3.2 cud have a manual option in titanium .. i have driven the auto and it suks .. but montero ..is crap

akash i know that montero is a rugged offroader ... no one compared this with endeavour , but thr price. We have the pajero, fortuner and endeavour available from 3000k to 4000k and these offers much provisions, aelectronic assisstants for exploring the off roiad .. R u gona pay 40 lakhs extra jst due to its off road capability , for 71-80 lajks i cud have gone foe VW toureag V 6 hybrid

Akash pandiaraj i have driven the endeavour through leh, ladakh and nepal .. were the roads were challenging .. the main fau;lt was its auto gearbox which every SUVs has incl;uding montero. May be montero can do better and for that no one is to pay xtra 40 lakh.. PEACE

Why did Mitsubishi even bother to bring this in via the CBU route?

Mitsubishi service centre’s are almost dead in India ,the company was busy showcasing only the pajero for years & now the so called updated montero.... The dealers also lost hope & have busy shifted to other brands .. Mitsubishi is always on search for new dealers but as of now the ones that exist are not up to Mitsubishi standards... The Lancer was one of the most beautiful & elite cars in India but looks like Mitsubishi have lost hope & seems as though its impossible for them to come back in the market ... How do customers gain trust in such a brand that’s sleeping since years now ... Investing in such a brand should be hell of a risk... Mitsubishi have always had the best engines , technology & looks but have failed to sustain in the Indian market .. Mitsubishi can come back in the Indian market only if they have sufficient new launches & a sedan like the Lancer which was affordable & good ..... Mitsubishi SUV’s are known for thr good off road capabilities but need a massive makeover .... Hope to see Mitsubishi back with proper service centre’s in India & hope to see new models displayed ...

Projected growth of this segment is yet another reason why these should be made in India and possibly exported worldwide . Bring the cost down - make it available to bigger market segment and TADA you have a solid business case to manufacture in India ...:)

If Fortuner, Endeavour and XUV can sell more than 1.5k units every month in India, Sure Mitsubishi too can after all their products have great legacy behind them, they should divorce Hindustan Motors and set up their full fledged factory in India, and also start exporting from India to other parts of globe. they may get some help from the central govt's Make in India scheme.........

Its not Mitsubishi who wants to sell this car for double the actual price.. Thanks to the Indian Govt. who have imposed a flat 100% import duty on Automobiles. I live in the middle east and I bought a brand new 2018 model of this one with a 3.8L gasoline engine for just 100,000 Riyals. (19.5 Lakh INR). Now you know where the rest of the money is going in India.

In the Philippines they call it Pajero because of its history it started in 1990

Every Malbari? I see people from different nationality driving this vehicle. Most of them are very satisfied. As this SUV gives Better Offroad ability, Interior space, Power etc..This is one of the best full sized offroad SUV. Pajero was also Dakar Rally Champion. Seems like you dont have a car.

Tavera is the best car it offers a very good leg room and good bucket seats but did not become popular due to its outdated exterior

Tusanda Gaming the 100ps turbo I tercooler version has been discontinued and a new version known was launched ... which has a 2.4 liter engine and much increased output...

Mitsubishi pajeros mk1 and mk2 are incredible,but this mk4 is not for me with front and rear independent suspensions ,plus 70lakhs for this 190hp SUV and also no quality? I would instead get myself a second hand g class 2008 model !

Jeep is a good choice

To be frank this is the same car as before, but was discontinued due to the diesel ban. There is nothing new in thus car, Mitsubishi are just selling the remaining ones to clear the stock at an exorbitant price. The gear lever is straight from the current India Pajero Sport and please this is not a Panoramic sunroof. Its a simple one. Panoramic is the one we get in Endeavor. Endeavour costing half of this has same engine displacement and BHP.

Top of the range costs around 70kAUD in Australia... that's 35Lac INR.. It's not worth the price in INDIA
