The Mitsubishi GTO is a sports car built by the Japanese automaker Mitsubishi between 1990 and 2001. In most export markets it was rebadged as the Mitsubishi 3000GT. It was also imported and sold by Chrysler of North America as the Dodge Stealth captive import from the 1991 to 1996 model years with only minor detail/appearance differences; mechanically, the two cars were almost identical. The design was the result of the collaborative effort between Chrysler and its Japanese partner, Mitsubishi Motors. This differed from the two company's other collaboration, Diamond-Star Motors because both the Stealth and the 3000GT were assembled in Japan. The Japanese domestic market model took its name from the Galant GTO, a two-door hardtop coupé sold by the company in the early 1970s, which in turn exacted its name from a specific international endurance motor sport technical regulation, expressed in Italian as Gran Turismo Omologato.
In Japan, Mitsubishi's GTO was sold at a specific retail chain, called Car Plaza.
Following the successful showing of the Mitsubishi HSR and Mitsubishi HSX concept cars at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show, Mitsubishi developed the new GTO as a technologically advanced 2+2 seater sports coupe to compete with the Honda NSX, Mazda Cosmo, Nissan 300ZX, Skyline GT-R, Subaru SVX and the Toyota Supra. They resurrected the GTO name, and the car went on to serve as Mitsubishi’s flagship for the remainder of the decade. However, despite the cachet of the badge at home, it was marketed as the Mitsubishi 3000GT and as the Dodge Stealth outside Japan; the company was concerned that connoisseurs would object to the evocative nameplate from the highly regarded Ferrari 250 GTO and Pontiac GTO being used on a Japanese vehicle. However, regardless of its badge or eventual target market, every car was built on the same production line at Mitsubishi's plant in Nagoya, Japan. Its introduction in Japan was during the softening of the Japanese economy, known as the "bubble economy" which had an effect on sales.
A Dodge Stealth was initially to be used as a pace car for the 1991 Indianapolis 500 race. The United Auto Workers (UAW), however, rejected the Japanese-manufactured car, as they deferred the concept of a Mitsubishi being a pace car for the race, and a prototype Dodge Viper was substituted.

mrjjthor Thor In Europe I have Seen only 1 3000GT in My life. I bought it. Never Seen another 3000GT at a Car Meet in Germany or around swizerland or austria. But many Supras and skylines

I timed the 0-60mph time at 3.22 seconds for the 3000GT at the 3:16 minute mark!!! That's blazing fast!

Reminds me of my ex. Easy on the eyes, A lil high maintenance sometimes, but has so much to offer... Then she blew up.

The one car (of 40+ I’ve owned) that I wish I still had was the 3000GT’s cousin... Dodge Stealth. Many years ago I had a 1992 Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo with the AWD & AWSteering! I fell in love the first time I saw it on the lot; came back the next day & traded in my Corvette for it. Fastest I had my baby up to was 155mph with plenty more to go! Thanks for the great video!👍👍

@@TheRazorJDM If you can't afford the VR4 try to at least get the middle model - the SL. 222 hp stock but it needs every single hp since they're so heavy - almost 2 tons (3500+ lbs). I owned a '95 SL and loved it!! Only modded the exhaust, air filter, adjustable coilover springs, and threw on some 18's. Crazy chic magnet too, just ask all the ex's haha

I had a 91 built VR-4 and stripped my output shaft and x-case input sleeve back when I was like 19. It was built with 2nd gen internals too so it had a 25 spline not 18 spline shaft, didn't matter lol

@@willvr4 I got the 300M output shaft like Rudy, along with the matching transfer case spool. Cost about a grand for two pieces of metal when I got mine, but I don't think anyone has grenaded one yet.

@@WhiteDwarfVR4 I winded up getting a billet input sleeve on my x-case from a friend on a 3/S forum. I was working at Pampena motorsports at the time and we originally thought it was a clutch issue because it really felt like one, so I winded up replacing the clutch as well.

They don't really make AWD cars with RWD options, the engine is mounted sideways to make it possible. Pop open the hood and you'll see.

I just picked me up at '93 GTO and even though she needs work (no power steering, second gear synchro going, windows don't go down, ya know...all the normal issues with an older GTO) I'm in fucking love.

I LOVE the sound, it reminds me of the JGTC race car version.
I remember one time showing out I dumped mine in gear 6000 rpms and 1st boom my mirror flew into my passengers lap it torqued so hard...

Its not an early 2000s car by any means. This car came out in 91. And seized production in 99 (USDM anyway)
There's a 99' 3000gt up the street from me, It's a non VR4 example, it's just rotting in a Driveway, if I can buy it, I'm gonna 4G63 swap it and make it AWD

They all pretty much sound good, just make sure you definitely increase your downpipe though which gives you a much lower throatier sound.

Had 2 water pumps go out within 40,000 miles, seals, and small things because of the age. Just wasn’t the most practical daily/tuner.

4g63 is better power to weight ratio..... and probably reliability and parts availability. There wasn't nearly as much aftermarket appreciation for the 6g72 than there was for the 4G

What's crazy is the 4000gt Mitsubishi is coming out with this year have yall seen it but yeah the vr4 engines are a bit## to deal with oh and if it jumps time and you try to start it say good bye to the valves oh and if the water pump goes out you have to remove the timing belt what a pain in the ass

There were three models: base Sohc 3.0l, SL dohc 3.0l,and vr4 dohc twin turbo 3.0l. As far Mitsubishi goes... Dodge also had the same models named something else. There were way more than 400 vr4's in the USA. I have a 92 vr4 that I've owned for 15 years and will not ever sell it.

Not sure of your question. The vr4 is Mitsubishi. Just the model. The dodge twin turbo model is an R/T.

Vinny Booboo Yeah that would not hold up for a long time in a stock block form 2jz, for the rb26 with 1,000 HP in stock block? I have not seen an rb26 with 1,000 HP in a stock block so idk. In my place there are some 500-600+ AWHP Evos daily driven in a stock block and drivetrain... I haven't seen a 700hp evo in a stock block form in my place yet...

@Vinny Booboo there are only a few rb26 or 2jz cars with more than 1khp on stock blocks. Most of which aren't pushed or run often. This isn't Forza and those engines aren't what the fanboys make them out to be

Vinny Booboo You will really be more impressed if you see a 1000+HP 4 cyl car with a stock drivetrain being daily driven.
Most of those 3000 gts did sound very violent. Pretty clear though...that vette & the gtr had no issue with them. Seems like a cool car to have with some cool action going on. Very old & too heavy to run the streets though

@@violentpwn Those thumb nail pics look really great. Fat is fat though. Being around other fatty cars don't make it right. Power to weight ratio is everything in racing. If you just wanna cruise the streets that's cool. I haven't seen a nice one on the roads since the late 90s. It would take one of these highly modded 3000s to be nice by today's standard. If I drink some beers I'd probably have a better chance to see a ufo before one of these top dollar 3000s around the Dallas area. Too many other cars people would rather buy.

@@vmoya6631 lol... There's tons of them nice as shit cruising around. You just blind. Though... Maybe not in Dallas.. Also... They were never meant to be a race car. Anyone who thinks as such isn't very knowledgeable about them. They're a gran touring car. Designed to cruised around on the streets. My Stealth rides smoother then most modern cars.. And with proper ECS that I have, it stiffens up and carves curves with ease.

Jonathan Garneau-Reid type fast and the furious prelude and he’s driving a 3000gt vr4 and it’s still considered the first movie just a side scene but obviously everyone knew the green car was a eclipse.
