This piece could be a dishcloth or a coaster depending on sizes and what kind of yarn used. Moreover, attaching pieces together could make it a blanket, scarf or a bag depending on your idea.
The decreases at the center can make it look different. Depending on which one you use, you will need an even or odd number of cast-on stitches.
For example, if you want to use CDD (center double decrease), you should cast on an odd number of stitches.
