George Vondriska talks miter saw safety and demonstrates why he prefers to release the trigger and let his miter saw blade come to a complete stop once he's made a cut before returning it to its original position. The answer is two-fold: 1) You won't have any small offcut pieces ricocheting around your workshop and 2) You avoid dragging the teeth across your cut line and guarantee optimal end-grain.

At my Library, firt safety rule told me, let blade completely stop before coming up. Enjoyed your video
Safety Tips? I only saw one tip. Here's some more: Bolt the saw to a stand. Make sure long pieces will be fully supported before and after a cut. Make sure the blade isn't going to get pinched after a cut from board warpage. Wear tight fitting clothing. Don't use a dull blade.

much love
It's a good tip and actually what every user manual says to do. The thing is, I've never actually seen anyone do this, and I rarely do it myself, so we all must be lazy. Incidentally, what do you do if the mitre saw has no electric brake? Stare at the blade for 10 seconds?

Yes. Because I didn't once, and I luckly escaped with just 5 stitches on the back of my wrist. I should have let the blade stop, and not cut in an awkward position.
I had my saw throw a piece of wood. It scared the living hell out of me.
Where are your safety glasses????????????
