A lot of people miss that 2 older guys who were going to be in there for what could be the rest of their lives put it on themselves to make sure another young man wouldn’t throw his life away.

Ali is a great storyteller! He will take you there even if you haven't even stole a piece of gum in your life. His other story about tripping on mushrooms on This is not happening is great too!

I have to comment again, you guys GET IT! You really put it into perspective when you spoke about how it can be dehumanizing to be treated like an animal on a daily basis. It's a psychological trick, if a guard believes that someone is sub-human, it's easier to abuse them. If the inmate begins to view himself as a savage, it's easier for him to commit acts that will likely give him more time. For an officer, that means job security.

He served 6 of his 15 years for selling drugs...as a teenager. That's insane. Our justice system is so fucked.

To be fair to the American justice system, if he had been white he probably would have received a much more lenient sentence.

@@samwortham2385 We can agree that white people are given lighter sentences than black people but as someone who worked in "corrections"......they are treated pretty much the same, once they are inside...... ALL are treated like rabid animals.......The murderer, the drug dealer, the prostitute, the addict, the tax evader, the mentally ill......ALL are treated the same! Like rabid animals.....Corrections officers Can't....."put down"! They really think being Cruel to inmates, will make them change their ways BUT it only breeds a more dangerous "Criminal"! Cops have this same mentality.....it's called Pain Compliance! IF an officer inflicts Pain upon a suspect, They will comply....... BUT Pain makes a person React opposite of what a Cop wants.....because we are hard wired to work against pain....not submit to it!

@@velvetrose7729 They treat everyone like shit in prison because they get paid to do so. Once you're inside, you're an animal to them and nothing less for the most part. The issue with prisons is they're usually privatized so they don't care about you as a person because that's not what pays the bills. They get away with giving people food that's expired by several years because it's cheaper than buying fresh food, and they can get away with it. The issue with the justice system is that it's prejudiced against minorities and the poor.

This was on a show with “comedians telling true stories.” The stories in this series don’t prioritize funny. However, comedians are often fantastic story tellers so it works well. People should just know they’re not watching a bit beforehand though.

The safest part is they think he did a violent crime with 15 years. He was just caught dealing drugs.

HIGHLY recommend his Comedy Central special called It's Bigger Than These Bars. He performs in a prison in Texas where he's from. It's a mixture of his stand up and him interviewing and interacting with inmates. Amazing special on multiple levels.

He was a drug dealer. There are mandatory minimums for those kinds of offenses, hence the 15 years. He was found in possession of a couple of kilos of crack or cocaine, I don’t remember which.

Depending on the state you could easily get 15 for a nonviolent crime. Then it depends on the judge as well. It's crazy.

Yeah, not violent crime. Selling drugs put a teenager in prison for most of his young adulthood. Criminalizing, prohibitionist drug laws must be reformed. The moral of this story is that a ridiculous sentence like this one could have actually turned him into a violent man, and probably did so to countless other inmates in a similar situation.

  • @everforward5561
