Don't skip over Avi in this song! Not only the bass (he blew the sound system while Mitch was on the floor), but also the overtones he provides for this song (he can sing 2 notes at the same time). Avi & Mitch were on fire that night & the other 3 were amazing! 💕

Kevin was putting his cello away. Avi had the idea to do the classical piece as an intro to Aha, which gave Kevin time to do that. When they transitioned to Aha they shifted on stage to make room for Kevin. However, this song is very Mitch-centric. The video is too. But I love how it shows his incredible flexibility and range. Great reaction!

It was indeed Avi's idea to intro Aha!" with the beginning of "Christus Facus Est", which he had performed with the award-winning chamber choir group he was in at college. If anyone is interested to see and hear that, here's the link. Look for 19-year-old Avi in the back row (the performance was actually in 2008). You can't miss his hair and newbie beard. Kevin was there. When they were performing the intro he was putting away his cello from the previous performance. If you watch for it, Mitch and Scott move to the left so Mitch is in the center and Kevin has room opposite Avi as the camera pans over to catch Avi's solo.

I love how Avi blows the speakers at the beginning and they still sound phenomenal.

Mitch can actually sing bass, if you sheck out his vocal range the newest one you will hear low low notes

I read a funny story behind this performance - apparently Mitch had a bad case of jet lag so he threw down a couple of Red Bulls before the show. Avi in the meantime had shredded the speaker system with that last low note in the intro, so as Mitch goes absolutely nuts when those 'Bulls kick in, Avi continued to joyously shred the rest of those speakers. :)

I enjoy the original video for Aha! It has a kinda Halloween-y vibe to it.

I had to laugh when you commented that they could probably each all by themselves do five part harmonies... Google Avi and overtone singing. There's one where he is singing a low note and simultaneously The Lion Sleeps Tonight melody over it.

They take an electro vibe and do it with only their voices I’ve heard two voice teachers say what they do on Gold should be technically impossible but Mitch runs up and down the scales in a mind blowing way And their timing with each other is insane

You are not the first reactor to ask "Where is Kevin" which is why this video is sometimes referred to as the "Where is Kevin" video. When the intro ends Mitch can be seen moving over toward Kirstie and Scott moves to where Mitch was so Kevin can come on stage at the end. The fan who filmed this was so fixated on Mitch and a little on Avi that the camera never panned over to the end where Scott and Kevin were, but you can hear him in the mix if you listen. But really this was the Mitch and Avi show. The Red Bulls Mitch had drank before going on stage kicked in and he went off. And Avi managed to blow the subwoofers later that night (the venue equipment wasn't up to his frequencies).

Thanks to this Mitch fan for footage; but you're right - they can do many, many shuffles of harmonies between them, each worthy of a spotlight at different moments. Happy New Year!

Kevin the beatboxer was there just out of camera range. this was mitch's show. there is another part of this concert and they perform Telephone by Lady Gaga. I'd love to see you react to it but a disclaimer those super-low notes from Avi blew a speaker and it's very noticeable in the rest of the concert. You had her name right, Kirstie

About the time Avi began blowing out the speakers with his low notes, Mitch and Scott moved to their right (our left) to make room for Kevin to come back on stage, but the person recording this on their cell phone never panned back to show him to us.

I have understood from comments that I have read that Mitch had drank a Red Bull (or two) before this performance and was wound up on caffeine.

Kevin does some solo performing before this song. As was already noted, he was putting his cello away and then takes a place on the right. You can hear him. The video is pretty good in that it stays in focus but only shows glimpses of the other Pentatonix members and nothing of Kevin. Also, the audio just can't capture Avi's low bass at certain points. None the less, this is video is a great gift to Pentaholics and Mitch fans in particular. New subscriber here for more Pentatonix. Have you reacted to their 90s dance medley? That's a good one.

Others have said this, but Kevin plays the cello, and just finished up, which is when they started this part. He came back, but the person who was recording this was a major Mitch fan... so I heard, and since the song was mostly Mitch singing, she focused on him. Yes Kevin is the beatboxer, but Scott sometimes takes over when Kevin is singing, so he is the backup beatboxer. Not sure how often that happens.

Laurie P, yes that’s what I’m saying. Avi Kaplan was the only one of them I thought was really, really good also. I wouldn’t have thought anything about it if you had said that because I would figure you had a reason why. Sometimes you just don’t like something.

Everyone obviously focuses on Mitch and Avi in this song, but I really want people to listen/watch Kirstin and Scott. IMO, they have the most difficult parts of this song. They both are providing the background fit Mitch but they’re both singing really fast, precise rhythms- that areas completely opposite of each other. They’re not just singing the same rhythm pattern but in different octaves, they’re doing BOTH. Each singing a different tempo batting off recorder. If either one of them get off in the slightest, tempo wise, the song is dead

This is a phone recording of the live that's why the video is bad. They have an official video that is cool too and sounds more like the original. You should check out Superfruit (Mitch and Scott's side gig) doing Feeling Myself. It is one of my favorites of theirs.

I can imagine that this song is fun to sing. I’ve heard people say Kirstie rhymes with Thirsty, but when she introduced herself on XM radio doing Christmas songs, she called herself K ear sty… so I’m honestly not 💯 sure.

If you haven't already, I would now suggest checking out the official video for the song, even if you don't do a reaction for it (although that'd be fun to watch too). The live is awesome, but it's restricted in quality by it being phone footage (imagine how much more wild it would be with perfect sound recording) & I think the sound system got a bit destroyed by Avi's bass, the video also kind a gives context a bit to the feel of the song, the vid is creeptastic, very Halloween type thing. I'd love to see them perform this now, but not sure it would be the same without Avi. I'll admit I've never heard the original singer's version though. PTX have a tendency to ruin me for the original versions as their upgrades are so good.

i will be first time hearing this song with this video so my reaction will be fresh too. edit; mitch-punched is right. he could totally be a j-pop artist, they are just as crazy. J-pop if you didn't know it is Japanese pop. K-Pop (korean pop) is almost as crazy. K-Pop and J-Pop are definitely their own genres and nothing like american pop. it's better. and that's saying something since i like american pop.

This is the best showing Mitch's performance but unfortunately, the camera phone operator only concentrates on him. There is another version out there that shows off Kevin and the others, better. Keven was off stage at the start, taking his cello off stage.
