To those saying it's too easy: well, that's the point. Back then, college admission wasn't competitive, because only a handful of people had the time and money to travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts and spend years without a job. So the only purpose of exams was to assess whether you have the basic aptitude needed to learn the stuff taught at MIT, not to decide which highly qualified candidate was better than the 100 other candidates vying for the same position.

@@AefaxThey just factored it then simplified. It is important to factor the numerator and denominator to eliminate like terms and that’s what they did. I didn’t recognize the difference of squares though 😬
I only clicked on this because i’m a time traveler studying for this exact exam
Just remember that you can use different methods to arrive at the same thing, some ppl learn this in different ways. So you might not understand what's going since ur not used to his methods

MIT admit in 1869 is as smart as the average 11 year old now ig.
As An average Indian School Kid solving JEE Advanced questions, this is tooo hard for me😁
To be more precise you can only cancel that factor if x³≠a²y but since x⁶-a⁴y² is in the denominator therefore x³≠a²y and we can cancel it out.
😢 i wish it was like that now

why would he do that? you go to mit if iit is too hard for you lmao , with this much iq you are getting into neither .
Can’t you just cross out numerator vs denominator from the start?
THEY TAUGHT ME THIS IN 7TH WTF!!!
4 cubed to the X factor of 1.5 squared over .3 to the power of 8 quadralaticly rooted in 4s
I was teaching this to a Std 9th student last week. She is 13 years old. 🥴
Me: hey albert! Albert Einstein: yes? Me: can you solve this?

If you genuinely think the guy who came with relativity and Photoelectric and predicted Black Holes before it was even seen, to be weak at Math. You are something else.

The guy went to the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. From what I can gather in some source, he's dealt his discoveries with the heavy Math to which an undergraduate course would cover superficially or not tackle altogether, only approached with rigor required at the PhD level.
It's amazing how things have changed. What was once an MIT entrance exam question is now standard high school or middle school curriculum (depending on location).
