@@mohamedelbashir1529 so the last 200 or so pages were the most action packed, there was literally a plot twist/big reveal/shock event every page right up until the end. Good video but I have some feedback for you on this type of video. You have asked some specific questions that require detail of the both book series in order to answer. You've clearly determined that this video is for the readers who have read both and keeping it spoiler free has really disrupted the flow. Having read both some time ago I was unable to grasp exactly what you were talking about some of the time due to the vagueness. You made some really great points and it left me wanting to hear what you had to say about the specific characters you were indirectly referencing. In some cases it left me wondering which of two or three characters you were talking about. My suggestion is this: With these type of themed videos that are specific and require specific knowledge do not be afraid of using a spoiler warning. I feel that you would have a much easier time expressing thoughts and it would have been easier to get drawn along with you. Thanks for being a great booktuber :)

I have a big pet peeve about everyone saying Brandon Sanderson's romance is bad. Every couples relationship is different I know a lot of couples that are super awkward others aren't, some are super romantic others aren't, some are extremely compatible others aren't. I think all the couples Brandon writes are different and I don't think we should say a relationship is written bad just because their experience is different than ours. Anyway, sorry for the rant haha but I'm always reminded of this haha. Also, I wont judge anyone for having this opinion but I just wanted to share my thoughts haha.

I don’t think I personally said any of them are written poorly. It’s true that relationships are different, but I don’t find that’s the gripe most people have; I could be wrong, but I think it’s more that because Sanderson often spends little time developing the romantic relationships, they simply don’t feel exceptionally fleshed out. Maybe that’s not what most people think and I’m just way off the mark! 😆

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Mistborn but I actually laughed at the title by how obvious the answer seemed to me. The characters in Mistborn don't even come close to the characters in the Stormlight Archive to me, granted I've only read era 1 so far. I was never able to emotionally connect with the Mistborn characters the way I did with the SA characters. I feel like Brandon develops the characters in SA so more much in the same amount of time given than in Mistborn. Even just comparing the Final empire to the way of kings I cared FARRRR more about bridge 4 than I did about Kelsier's crew. Basically everyone besides Sazed was forgettable in that book. Things get better (obv) in Well of Ascention and Hero of Ages. But things get demonstratively better in the latter SA books. The cast of SA is really on another level, even "side" characters. Teft, rock, Rlain, Dabbid, Renarin, Leshwi, Rysn, Evi, Sebariel, etc

My first introduction to Sanderson was Way of Kings. After reading it I read Warbreaker, followed by Words of Radiance and I was fully sold this was an author whose works I was going to follow forever. With this in mind, and wanting to share his works, I suggested to my wife that we co-read Mistborn together, as that was what I was hearing was his other great work besides SA (for the record at this point I'd say that was Emperor's Soul but that's neither hear nor there). The result was hugely disapointing. Neither of us really cared much for book one, and about half way through book two my wife tapped out, advised me I could keep reading if I wanted but she was done with this book and this author. Made me very sad, but it was tough to argue as book 2 was even more under whelming then book 1 (which I did still go on to finish on my own). All of which is to say, this doesn't even fee like a topic worth discussing to be honest. To be clear I do NOT think Mistborn is a bad series. It definitely wasn't for my wife, but I still found it some what entertaining, if more then a bit clunky. But SA is one of the best series I've ever read (thus far) while MB (at least era 1, which is all I've read to this point, but I've heard is sadly the better of the two eras per multiple sources) is just an okay, maybe slightly above average, fantasy story. Comparing Mistborn to SA is like comparing Weird Al's music to his books. Weird Al has written some perfectly fine, maybe even above average, children's books, but his music is why he's one of the most well known and beloved musicians of my life time, its just not a fair comparison and can only serve to make his books look worse then they actually are because they're being compared with one of the greatest bodies of work of all time. Same thing here, I do not think mistborn is bad, but it can't help but look bad if the point of comparison is SA, which is shaping up to be one of the great fantasy series of all time. Edit: Okay should probably give my own answers here to the questions: Character - SA, not even close, MB characters aren't developed enough and while I've read flatter characters for sure, I never really felt like I understood any of them where as I feel like I not only deeply understand all of SA's main characters, I honestly even feel like I've gotta a better handle on some of the secondary characters then I do on many of MBs main characters. Also, they're just more interesting. Again, I don't think MB's characters are bad, I like many of them, they just pale compared to SAs. Romance - I actually think that 50/50 split is appropriate because they're both equally meh in both series. If I had to pick I'd give the slight edge to SA, there were a few characters who at times have shown a hint of chemistry, while I never really felt chemistry between anyone in MB, the characters who were together or were interested in other characters felt like they were more for plot reasons then because they'd actually had meaningful connection points or built something together. But again, this is splitting hairs as SA's romances are definitely not its strong suit either. For all the things he's incredible at writing, if you're looking for a good romance, sanderson is not your author. Friendships - SA, and again, it's not even close. Which is sad as I feel like friendship plays a HUGE role in the story of MB for reasons I won't mention due to spoilers, and again, they ONLY look bad when compared to SA, not because they were actually bad, but almost all the MB friendships felt awkward or forced to me compared to the SA ones which feel far more natural. As much as Sanderson can struggle on romance, by the time he got to writing the SA he'd mastered writing a good friendship. Unfortunately he was still finding his way when he wrote MB, at least thats what it felt like to me on my read. Bonus Bridge 4 vs Crew - Bridge 4 and again its not even close. The bond of Bridge 4 in many ways is what MAKES SA work so well, what makes it so special. The friendship of the crew in mistborn is a story point, I'm shocked the voting was even as close as it was. Side Character - SA. I LOVE Sazed (is he even considered a side character?), but it gets a bit more murky after him, while I could list tons of beloved SA side characters (granted, like Sazed, its unclear to me who is and isn't a side character so depending on how this is defined it could change my view a bit). Dog vs Spren - I love dogs, but I was pretty indifferent to the dog character, while I love syl and pattern so this is another one where its honestly not even close. Bonus Syl vs Pattern - Super SUPER close, but I give Pattern the slight edge. I might be a little bias as my wife hand knit me a pattern hat, but she did it because I was really enjoying pattern so much. Antagonists - SA, more complex antagonists but I don't think this one is as clear cut, particularly if we're including all of era 1 and not just book 1 (which had an extremely under developed antagonist) since we learn more about the antagonists as the series goes along making them more interesting. But still, SA's antagonists feel more unique and more memorable and sanderson made me really REALLY want to see them get their comeuppance compared to MB.

Before even watching the video I want to say, making us choose between Mistborn and Stormlight was cruel :,( I love them both so much I couldn't even chose for some of the questions. Overall I think Stormlight is better in a lot of aspects even if not all (as you say, it's Sanderson's masterpiece and it can be noticed) BUT the Final Empire is my favourite book ever and I would classify it above any of the Stormlight books. So they are extremly balanced for me ^^

I am not even sure why is this comparison made. To understand everything going on in the last (and future) StormArchive books, while not required it's recommended to read Mistborn 1 and 2 Era and Secret History I personally enjoyed more Mistborn Era 2 so far. Anyway, the writing style between these two is different, because Stormlight has a broader focus, magic systems are distinguished enough although Stormlight is hitting those high fantasy cliches, borderline, yet maintains its own identity. In a way, I found Allomancy (and two other magic systems on Scadrial) more fun but that's just a personal preference (because it keeps it simple, doesn't try to wrap around too much, such as represent 9 distinct different orders, or tries to anyway). If there is something I dislike about Stormarchive that's some characters (and before you go, my favorite ones are all side one), not because they are bad but how they are built, and at the same time I also enjoy the books because of them, because that's how the life is you can't like everyone and they are believable and down the earth human (not the classic high fantasy either). But it's just that some of them have much more complex structure around them, taking more of word count and chapters than others and basically often they are around some I don't like. But the great thing about Brendon's writing is that characters grow, change, shape, and I already have a few I strongly dislike, change to strong liking over the course of time. It's just that I fear as Brendon continues to publish Storm Archive he will loose the focus (broad it) even more and maybe he should wrap it a tide a bit before he loses the control over narrative? That is my main concern. Other than that, anyone who enjoys StormArchive will enjoy Mistborn and vice-versa

@@jaredpoulter6762 Sazed is such a good character. Some people don't like his depressed phase, but I think it's a realistic reaction and it makes his comeback and character arch that much more powerful!

Spoilers for the romance in both series Elend and Vin’s relationship was just not good in book one. Vin was so paranoid and untrusting so the fact that she fell in love with literally the first nobleman she met was just unbelievable. In this regard, I prefer Shallan and Adolin’s relationship because they were just to kids who found each other hot and I’m fine with that I guess. BUT the power couple that Elend and Vin grew into was just amazing so it’s kinda unfair to compare because we don’t know the outcome of Shallan and Adolin.

@@tonkabeanicecream5698 ooh hahah I’m pretty rusty too but I believe Elend was the first nobleman she really spoke to. She didn’t dance with anyone at the first ball she went to and I don’t think she joined in on conversation.

I personally think that Stormlight Archives are better just because we spend a lot of time with the characters. Also people who haven't read both the series are going to be so confused.

I really need to reread Mistborn book 1 & 2 so that I can read book 3 and finish the series. My heart was just too broken after book 2 💜😪😪

Scrolling through the comments, I'm truly surprised to see how any people not only tolerate but enjoy reading Pattern's scenes. Shallan and Pattern are the the only two things in SA that I dont really enjoy reading. I think that Shallan's arc and story are interesting, but her as a person I just cant stand. Even though I have physically read the books first, I have since listened to the audiobooks while I'm at work. The voice of Pattern was like nails on a chalkboard to me and made me dislike Pattern more. I still like Stormlight far more than Mistborn though.

That's crazy, really cements to me how much Stormlight has for different types of readers. I think Sando is at his worst when he's trying to write humor, EXCEPT with Pattern. I think Pattern is HYSTERICAL and every scene with Pattern is an A. Sorry that he and Shallan grated you so much!

I think that one of Sanderson´s weaknesses is writing romance. In Mistborn I couldn´t believe what the pages told me over and over again. In Stormlight he gets better, but I think he still has room for improvement. All that said, I believe that SA has my overall support. It´s just so fascinating to me. I love Mistborn, but not at the level of SA.
