Mistborn | Shadows Of Self Review

The Mistborn trilogy is probably one of the biggest and most influential gateway trilogies for the fantasy genre. Countless people have begun their journey into wider fantasy thanks to Mistborn and Brandon Sanderson has done an excellent job of melding deep fantasy ideas and themes with a story that has mass appeal for a wider market.
In fact, Mistborn is how I started reading wider fantasy and the Cosmere, so it has a special place in my heart too. But a while back I discovered there was an Era 2 of Mistborn that takes place hundreds of years later. I’ve already read the first book of Era 2 and reviewed it on the channel, but now I’ve read the second book, Shadows of Self, and I’m kicking myself for waiting this long to get into this continuation...

I prefer era 2. The fact we aren't trapped in perpetual state of city under siege, means the threat is alot more personal for the characters and i care more about that. Maybe the fact the world isn't constantly ending makes for better a back and forth for mood and atmosphere. Getting drunk in a western bar can be Fun, while a shoot out to the death is Tense.

Im currently reading this book and I just read the part where they're drinking at the bar and stacking the coasters or whatever they were. I agree with that, we never really got moments like this during Era 1 and it did always seem like the same mood throughout for the most part. Im enjoying Era 2 a lot more myself so far. Wax and Wayne are probably my favorite characters in the Cosmere so far, followed closely by Kaladin. Hoid and Lightsong are great characters as well though. Im really looking forward to Moash as a character too and seeing what happens with him next and where he will end up. I guess Kelsier is a fun character too and should have an interesting journey. Lol
I can’t wait to see you thoughts about bands after you finish the book.

Wax and Wayne are probably my favorite characters in the Cosmere so far. They are begging for a tv series or movies, it's like a western meets Sherlock Holmes with magic. It could be really good if done right.

I’m postponing my next era 2 reread for when book 4 is closer to release.

It's an awesome book!
Nice vid. In my opinion Shadows of Self is the weakest of era 2 but i really liked Wax personal struggles, i think the magic and worldbuilding gets so much better in BoM.

Actually finished BOM this week and yeah it's sooooo gooood
This book in the era 2 is definitely a step up from the first
Era 2 is fucking awful! Only books of the cosmere that aren’t awesome!
