Why is everyone complaining that it's "copied", I don't get it! Of course it is, where is the problem? Is it forbitten to play Mozart or Chopin because I didn't write it myself?

I agree. Also, every choreography has their own style of making the mistakes, so technically it’s not copied.

It is almost directly copied, step for step, from Jerome Robbins' ballet The Concert. Like George Balanchine's works, Robbins' choreography is protected by the Trust, therefore it is illegal to copy it, even "in the style of." Mozart and Chopin is public domain so although ethically wrong, it can be copied unfortunately.

The pianist sounds extremely confused on how this piece is supposed to be presented lmao.

Oh they're so young and they did it perfectly! XD perfectly imperfectly. I love this silly piece

The piano is too fast at some points that were suppose to be slow that's why it isnt much funny, it feels like it's a bit too rushed rather than doubtful and unsure which the performance should have feel like

@@kyonhou no it's not, there are many other videos where the pianist is playing in time and not dragging or going too fast. That may be how this particular pianist chooses to interpret the piece but in the end it totally messes with the final product of pianist AND dancer

"ThIs Is CoPiEd" you guys do realize that MOST if not the majority of ballet companies do nutcracker.... right... lol most companies do a variation from a classical piece.... right? Ballets are often recreated or redone all over the world and country. Not every company creates brand new ballets for every year. It's not copying as much as it is performing a BALLET it's a story they are telling and retelling. They may change something about it but it's not stealing or copying for the sake of it

Exactly, that’s like singing a song, you can add some of yourself in it like new harmonies but it’s kinda limited. It’s kind of sad how many people are saying this is copied.

dos tres But there are things like variations such as Swan Lake that many companies do, and many variations are used in competitions/recitals. There was a single company that created Swan Lake, but now it’s recreated almost identically all over the world

I can't read thru 386 comments, waiting for someone to mention that this "ballet" was choreographed by Jerome Robbins! This is the mistake. It was part of the ballet The Concert made by Robbins in 1956. They left out the funny beginning when men carry in the dancers in different immobile poses, place them in their poses on the floor, whereupon they pick themselves up and start to "dance", and at the end of the dance, the men come back, pick up the girls who are again in ballet stiff poses, and place them on the floor in a row. Much was left out! That is also the mistake. I've seen The Concert so many times at NYC Ballet that I could direct the performance myself.

Dear Eileen Pollock, information that it is a choreography by Jerome Robbins is in the description of the video. There is also information that this performance was only an element of the competition at the Dance World Cup. Dance World Cup has strict rules and in this category the dance was limited to only 3 minutes 30 seconds - that's one reason why the funny start and end were left out. The second reason why it was left out is the lack of boys in our ballet school. Our ballet school is NOT a ballet conservatoire (what is a big difference in Europe). The girls who competed with this dance were only 8-12 years old, plus one of them 14 years old. These girls haven't even had a partner dance classes yet. I understand that by seeing the NYC Ballet so many times you have high demands, but you have to admit that they did very well for the fact that they are still just children.

For any of the ballerinas watching this, is it possible to start ballet at age 12? Or 13? Ive always wanted to be a ballerina but i live in a small town, not having ballet studios, but im willing to travel long distances..but this question bothers me..please do answer my question! A

I'm 57, and went back to ballet class last september after a 39 years iatus. Granted, I had 13 years of ballet class as a child, so I am not a true beginner but still, if I can do it again at 57, you can certainly start at 13. I believe Misty Copeland did start at 13, so go for it, if that's what you want. Maybe you won't become a professionnal dancer, but you still will be doing something you love. If ballet is your dream, make it happen. I did, and it's one of the things I'm happiest about !
