I have been following you for over a year more and really enjoy your channel. Don’t know much of the details you talk about because I’m not in your industry but appreciate watching you create these structures! I have always loved the idea of building a home. there will always be those critical of your content; they can pound sand! it’s also good that you are open enough to show your mistakes. We all make them! Take the good with the bad! I know enough people who are in construction and can confidently say there are two types of construction workers. Those who have made mistakes and those who are going to! Keep being you and banging ‘em out! Danny from Atlanta
I loved this video, I could watch this for hours, it felt like I was right up there doing the job
helluva crane man there....from somebody thats set trusses for close to 40 years now....good job
Staying on layout with our blocking is always a tricky one. Metal plates tend to throw things off. Usually cut block 3/16 short. Not the typical 1/8th. Nice work as always
Bro. I’m not in construction but I’m watching this at 1am your time. Great view. Ive never seen setting trusses that up close. Bad ass. Come back to Twin Falls ID and build my house. In the winter since you loved it so much

I am in awe of your sense of balance and maneuverability when doing those trusses. Just recently found your channel and have been really enjoying it. Granted I'm a commercial sparky and don't understand half of what you're talking about, I still really enjoy it nonetheless. Keep up the great content! 👏 🤙
Ha! As complex as a lot of the truss plans are these days, I'm glad I'm just running the crane. " You just tell me where you want them, but I can tell you, the first ones we need are probably on the bottom," is something I say a lot. The best crane guys have their dogs with them, mine goes with me anyway, all 10 pounds of him. Just like at 6:26 though, at some areas of the operator cab rotation, he can't get in, but he's learned to wait until I swing around. Dogs like it as much as riding in a car. Louie looks like he has his act together!
Said it before and I will say it again, your crane guy blind flying those trusses in is a boss!
Your "reveal" is hilarious. Staying humble keeps you human.
I am not sure if this is the most nerve racking video I have watched of yours Matt. Watching through helmet cam showed how precarious it is working putting the trusses up. It showed how easy it would be to be knocked off the roof by not paying close attention to what is going on around you. Well done guys.

You changed your name?!
Matt, thanks for showing us a lot of detail of when things go right and mmm, when they don't. The use of trusses has changed so much from when I started in 75. We only used them on garages and some small commercial buildings mainly due to truss lift separating the interior wall/ceiling intersection. I guess there is a way to combat that now.

@@coachwalrus3158 Since I last used trusses in a finished space things have changed a lot. I am not an engineer or building scientist, just an old nail pounder. I remember that the taped joints at the ceiling/wall intersection would break open or the crown molding would break a part. I also remember one remedy was to not tape the wall/ceiling intersection and install crown attaching it only to the ceiling so it could slip up and down depending on how much the sun was lifting the top cord of a truss. Are there any other carpenters who remember this?
Been watching your channel for a while now. Always great content. I usually pick up a few pointers or different styles to get things done. Stay on your game and don’t change anything.
Shalom Matt 1/8” off A walk-in talkie/ radio??? In use on the job site. Maybe have 3-4 of them? You have one, Fox, and man on the ground. Communication on site is important. Love your vids.
I feel your pain on the rake wall, thats why i always check the calcs when framing a rake wall.
Next big one, see about renting a rotating telehandler. They have winch heads and a few different attachments which turn them into a crane. I see them around alot here due to tight sites and I'm pretty sure r&r buildings used one on a build
This reminds me when I helped build a warehouse for the company I use too work for, We put joists hangers on before hand and when we went to set the last one I told them it was backwards they didn't listen to me.
Holy guacamole!!! Walking on the top plate looks sketchy. Framing cowboys. Nice work.

In Ireland we sometimes make up sections of roofs on the ground... and lift the whole section up .. might have 3 or 4 lifts for a decent size roof.. or if it's in housing estates with each house the same we could make up the roof on the base of the next house and lift it up in 2 lifts.. you wouldn't be able to do that on that roof though... or you could have a line with 4 trusses on at different sections of the lifting straps so you can space them out and drop one at a time fix it Lower it to the next then after..... I'm just watching the previous video after this one... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Very Productive Matt! Great work!!

So are you going to reframe the rake wall or just go with it? Maybe build a gable end truss with 4/12 pitch on the bottom cord on site and run a nailer at 6/12 and another to catch the rock? Would like to know.
How do you guys vent your attic with those blocks in there, I imagine you are doing the blocks for some code, we insulate our attics with foam, they spray it to the underside of roof deck so we have a conditioned attic, is that what you are doing? Just wondering thanks, great vids btw
what a big job, NICE!!! btw, where did you get that framing hammer, and speed sq

Does the ridge guy cutting his blocks too
At $250 per hour, you could just hire the crane to set the trusses up on the walls and send him home, then your guys can set the trusses using pike poles. That'll save you lots of cash.
Walking top plates with a cup of coffee should've waited a little before watching this the longer video was great

2ft on center a35 on the gable, I hate that lol an a triple brace 😒 lol also if your not part monkey you can't be working trusses lol. Great work as always. The crane guy was good.
if you close the day , go straight to the barber shop . don,t scare us anymore.
Why don't you run hose free nail guns? It's much more convenient for trusses
19:44 Why haven't I ever seen that little trick before? I feel stupid.
I was just wondering because I know you guys work down in Southern California. We don’t fly trusses one at a time here in Northern California. So is that a preference of yours or is that pretty much how everybody works in that area?
Why not build center staging across n lay ur whole bundles of trusses on the roof its waaaay faster then one by one with a crane
Matt. Wouldn't it make sense to prefab 2 or 3 trusses on the ground as an assembly and set them as one module?
How was the new hammer?

You shouldn’t hit wood with the back of the gun, but especially the nose. I don’t know if Paslode is sold in the US or not. I quit buying Hitachi because they didn’t have a hook on them. They are fragile if they get dropped. I found Paslode far more durable. I’ve been framing since the early 80s, and my body is getting a little tired. Stay safe.
