Now this is a true “documentary”! Guess they don’t make em’ like they used ta’ - including the service men. Wow, this is spectacular footage for its time. I’m so impressed, & humbled. Dan Snow, eat your heart out (i couldn’t resist). Excellent show with a minimum of tell. Doesn’t really need the (dated) music - those engines work just fine alone…
There’s no way to thank this generation of all the allied forces enough for the freedom we have today. God bless them all.

WE SHOULD KEEP STRIVING TO AT L E A S T TO GUARD THAT HARD-EARNED LIBERTY. THIS FREEDOM WAS BOUGHT AT A HEAVY PRICE OF HUMAN BLOOD AND SUFFERING.

Yeah it looks like we have failed... We are the generation who let political and financial corruption win in 2020.. I look in the mirror and that is what I see unfortunately.

You are witnessing Trump defying all law and order, and our system of justice, denying his corruption and attempt at destroying our constitution and encouraging his sheep to attack and kill, then claim corruption is winning. Only if he avoids accountability!
My grandfather was in the 25 infantry division Tropic Lightning. He served from 1940 until 1945. Guadalcanal, Northern Solomon's, and Philippines liberation.
Fantastic footage ; how brave all out fighters.
My dad photographed from back of B 25. He talked about Rabald, Okinawa , Port Morsby, Layity, Island hoping. He had a photo with 77 enemy aircraft in it. The squadron to begin this film i think was his. Looks familiar.
While watching I was just wondering what my grandma and grandpa did to really hide themselves from this heavy bombing.

What city or country
That's a lot of heavy ordnance starting at 1:39.
Read "The War at the End of the World" by James P Duffy...MacArthur's New Guinea campaign...
Yes the Australian effort in the SW Pacific is so unremembered
...The New Guinea campaign is the least known of MacArthur's in WWII...Gen Geo. Kenny was his air general...he took the air war to the enemy...

That's because he spent most of the campaign in his penthouse in Brisbane looking for photo opportunities with the media. When MacArthur and Blamey were not arguing over photo opportunities they were trying to gain political points over one another. lol
I bet that Australian General wasn't on the first wave in Lae either.
It’s a wonder they had any animals left on those islands, bombed or scared to death😢
Supposedly 44 Interstate TDR-1 Bombers were used on the island of Rabaul. I'm looking for photographic evidence of the event. I've seen one clip showing TDR's taking off and being flown into an apparently beached ship?

If anyone knows about film evidence, please let me know. I have a personal interest because I had the opportunity to fly one in the late 70's. The one I flew had been given to the Antique Airplane Museum in Blakesburg Iowa . We shocked a lot of people when that thing flew out headed for Harvey Young Airport, in Tulsa
The raid on Rabaul showed no b24's. Bad. Just Conell's special the 90th BG's CO. Should have been names B25's attack Rabaul...

WHY the stupid counter? They have their logo at the top left...this was just DUMB!!!
Had the military not heard of chainsaws? That chopping down trees with axes is hard work and slow

I would bet they weren't very usable in the jungle. They were very heavy and required two men to operate. An axe would be something a man could carry, along with all of his other stuff, which was quite a lot.

The weight and size for carrying fuel and oil through the jungle is just too much. You have to first clear a road or large path to then carry in heavy machines and equipment.

Those trees are not dense and tough like those we use for structural lumber. They are like big fiberous weeds so it wasn’t extremely difficult.
The 5th use to bomb Japanese at night and the Japaese troops there compained the B-25s kept them awake at night ...called them Amerians.....Rabaulrousers.
Stupid music 🥵
My father fought in this theater, mostly at Buna. So I know something about the high U.S. casualty rate. All the Japanese on the ground where he fought had to be killed. No Japanese soldier surrendered, not one. As pointed out by another comment, my father had malaria problems for the rest of his life. The narration does say "allied," as in "allied air superiority". But they show P-38s and don't even remark that these are U.S. fighters. And so all this is Australian effort, right? Wrong wrong wrong. The classical music, lots of Holst repeated ad infinitum, is ridiculously inappropriate. The military mindset, no matter what side, is full of over-the-top propaganda, as usual.

I heard two thirds died of disease not actual combat. . One starving Japanese surrendered to my father on watch duty. But yeah, bad times.
