I saw a matchbook with the words What Ever Happened to Sean Flynn? It intrigued me because I was a big fan of his father's. I sent for information to the address on the matchbox. An organization called VIVA,was trying to find the MIAs and POWs in the war,and had bumper stickers and posters. I handed the posters out and put the bumper sticker on my car for the longest time. Did what I could. Not many cared. Heard different stories from that he was dead to that didn't want to come home. Nothing ever came of any of them So sorry he was never found. So moved that you named your son after him. .

Sorry Jay M you might be right but only persons who lived in such areas as Vietnam or Cambodia are able to share the feeling why they have gone there and went back to such places. Anybody else living in save places can not follow what that means.

CODE NAME BRIGHT LIGHT by George J Veith's book explains how the military was thwarted in rescuing soldiers in the first critical 24 hours. The ambassadors and other political hacks where more concerned about impressions.

It's a struggle to find meaning in life. The gonzo journalists were attracted by adventure and all that comes with it (a drive to prove one's manhood, a rite of passage, etc.), but also by a need to expose what they saw. Their were journalists who never left Saigon, and then there were these guys. They took chances, just like anyone involved in extreme activities or sports. My knowledge is that being a C-list actor wasn't going to cut it for him. Living in his father's shadow wasn't going to cut it. At least as a gonzo journalist, he was cutting his own path. It came with risks, and approaching the car and enemy troops was an act of hubris. But he made his choice.

Sean wasn't drafted he didn't have to be over in Nam, his foolish choice to be a photo journalist, to prove WHAT? Stupid. I'm sure there could have been plenty of other safer ways he could have made himself "feel worthy". He actually left Nam went back to Paris at one point then stupidly went back to Nam. Sorry he's put his loved one's lives through years of non stop hell. Yes we're all going to die, but most die where at least someone knows where they're at and can have their remains.
