ALWAYS tell someone where you’re going and when you’ll be back when you go hiking! If you take off into the woods alone, even if you’re well equipped and well prepared, things can go wrong. You can be injured, attacked by animals, get sick, or just get lost. And if rescuers don’t find you within the first 72 hours, your chances of survival are very, very low. Making sure people know to realize you’re missing, and know where to look for you, is THE most important thing for your own safety and survival.

Super important, my cocky butt got stuck in the woods for 3 days with a flat and no one new where I was, I of course had a spare- never checked to confirm the Jack was there 😅. Luckily I had plenty of food and water and my car to stay warm but no service for miles and I didn’t know how long it would be before I found someone.

His first mistake is that he told no one his itinerary. Whether you go hunting/fishing /camping or any outdoor sports, always tell someone your whereabouts. Always carry a mirror polished stainless steel water bottle. leave your plastic at home. With a mirror polished water bottle, he could've flashed for help which you can't do with a plastic water bottle. Always carry a knife and fire making kits. You can cut kindling with your knife and built a campfire with your fire making kit. Your campfire can become a signaling device by adding dead leaves and spruce/pine/fir branches. It will make huge bloom of smoke that will attract rescuers. If you can't do any of those, then, always carry on your person a small survival kit. It's worth its weight in gold

There are some place that are remote and unpopular trails. You cannot just enjoy nature, you have to be on alert and makes good decision. Manage your time and stay on the trails. If you are exploring know the place first before exploring or doing multiple trips.

This young man was so lucky. ❤ He didn't seem to be a regular hiker. You always need supplies and equipment with you even for short hikes.🧭🥾 It looks like this area has a lot of hikers and walkers going through it. The terrain looks so similar all around. A twisted ankle or other injury can happen. Also let someone know you are hiking. The area is beautiful. It's so easy to go for a walk and get turned around. This man found water and stayed there while listening for someone come.👍🏻 This situation turned out wonderful. 🤠 So glad for this young man to be rescued. The rescuers did a great job of getting him out and getting his health checked. ❤❤❤

Also tell at least three different people where you are going and give them a map. That way if one person doesn't check another one will.

Yes these hikers need to tell people where they're going they need to carry supplies for emergencies and they need to carry some type of location device this has been told year after year after year after decade after decade to people and people still do not listen. Stay on the trail why would you ever get off the trail when you're hiking alone is beyond me.. . I'm glad the man is safe and has been rescued but don't ever go hiking alone unless you tell somebody where you are going and you take supplies with you

Another tip is to leave a dirty sock and a plastic bag on your dashboard of the car. That way if they use dogs to try to find you they will have your scent.
