If he actually had a place to keep her secure she probably would have never been found. He had her laying under her bed. With his Dad there. Ultimately I think his lack of preparedness is what saved her. Imagine if he was one of those lunatics who had a dungeon at a house in the middle of the woods to lock her up in. This could have been so much worse. And it absolutely blows my mind that the weirdo would do something like this and bring her back to his Dads house and hide her under the bed as if that was going to work. @@darren6589 he means the extra mile as in like cutting through backyards and having the presence of mind to go to a neighbors home instead of her home which was closer to his. i feel like a lot of people might just go straight to their own home as fast as they could. shortest route down the street. since he had been out actively looking for her at that time, there's a high chance that she would have been spotted by him and likely would have fled town. i do consider her actions 'the extra mile' because she, again, had presence of mind in that situation.

You'd be surprised how often this happens. Especially if its a stranger and the person doesn't want to pick them up or have them in their vehicle, not knowing if it's a set up.

Theres a case in Mexico where a teenager was kidnapped and held for ransom and her parents where made to pay monthly to get her back and they would never deliver her to the parents as promised but every time they wanted money they would send them pieces of her hair an or videos of her being abused and stuff like that and this went on for three years and then they finally killed her after three years

It’s been a few years now. This girl is an absolute survivor and has my utmost respect. Jayme if by some wicked reason you see this know that you have your whole life ahead of you. You’re an absolute inspiration to everyone especially women everywhere.

Jeanne's call with the operator and when she said the deputy wanted her to lock the doors and peter's affirming "yep" almost made me tear up. Then he posted up outside with the shotgun. Mann, they had her and they were going to KEEP her safe. It's so hard to like people these days but that really got me and it's humbling to be reminded that not everyone in the world is evil.

I worked with her parents at the local Turkey store in Barron. She was the sweetest. He had a humorous personality. As it only 10 minutes away from my house at the time. It was certainly frightening. I remembered thinking to myself, "where did they take her?" If Jamie ever reads this, my heart will always go out to you. You are one of the bravest people I've ever heard of. Your parents were not just wonderful people, but absolute pure and loving. May you enjoy your life at the absolute best you possibly can. Always in your heart honey. ♥

Imagine being the woman who Jayme came up to while she was walking her dogs. My heart would have been going a MILLION miles a minute. You’re watching this whole case unfold and the girl who is missing is right in front of you. Thank God she called the cops right away and got her help. Thank God for that family they went to and the man staying by the door with a shotgun. Thank God Jayme saved herself!!!! It’s a miracle she had no injuries. Praying for Jayme still. I know she has to still be traumatized. Probably for life. Lord have mercy. I was crying my eyes out when they told about her being in the bathtub with her mom trying to protect her 😭 I hope they gave Jayme that $50k reward for saving herself. She deserves it.

I do like how the officers ask if there was anything they could've done to help. It shows that they both want to save lives and also take responsibility for not finding a way to save them.

As a father this had me all over my emotions. I have 2 daughters and 3 sons. My biggest fear like many other parents is that something happens to any of my children let alone my girls. Im so happy she was found alive. May her parents rest in peace 🕊️.

Anybody who is willing to commit such horrible acts is doing it for what they consider a reason. Why would anybody break into a house, kill everybody, and NOT take any valuables? Jayme was the valuable he wanted. If she put up a strong fight after he got her to his dad's house, and he killed her there, then there would be evidence linking him. I'm just so glad she's still alive and that horrible monster is behind bars.

@@theclearsounds3911 guess the point was that he could've taken her when she was alone outside the house. people are vulnerable especially when they're alone waiting for something like a bus stop. if there's no other people around the attacker could just calmly get out of the car, open the trunk and while the victim might find it strange they wouldn't necessarily expect anything to be wrong until they have a gun in their face and they were told to get in the trunk and at that point they're out of options.

But he spent so much time and effort into not getting caught, I don't think he wanted to risk taking her in broad daylight in front of her own house, with the bus coming at any time, and other traffic zooming by. Many cold cases got solved after some years. It all comes to light one day through mysterious circumstances and modern day technology.

I agree with the comments regarding the bravery and caring of the neighbors who helped Jaimie stay safe until law enforcement arrived. I wasn’t completely surprised though, coming from a similar small town In Michigan. That is exactly what complete strangers do for each other regardless of the risk of their own lives in these areas. I applaud them and pray for jaymies well being.

To think people thought on Social media this little girl could kill her parents, the ones that loved and cared for her and she loved them very much is disgusting, then claimed she was guilty of doing such a gruesome crime without any evidence pointing to that being the case. Police had already dismissed that theory. 88 days frightened after witnessing her parents being murdered by this nut case and finally working up the courage to escape. You should never pass judgement on something without truly knowing the facts 1st hand. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Poor girl. So glad for her to hear, that she is thriving and staying with her grandparents but still not something anyone as a child would want to experience or be exposed to...ever. I've just seen this.

I know so many girls that complain that they are constantly accosted by weird men from the age of 12. Jamie is just another example of why they feel the way they do. I’m twice your age and still get weird men trying to talk to me and ask me to go places. I’ve been followed in stores, and just walking around. I always have pepper spray in my hand, and am constantly on high alert. It’s not only scary, but exhausting. I’d love to feel safe on a walk alone, especially at night. I’ve heard a ton of about this case, but it never ceases to horrify and absolutely amaze me. The father who misinterpreted information from the other side of the door leading to his death, the mother trying to protect her daughter as she herself was being M’ed, to the daughter that witnessed BOTH of her parents die right in front of her only to be kidnapped with god knows what in store for her. She is absolutely AMAZING. She wasn’t found, she RESCUED HERSELF. There’s been a few cases I’ve heard like this where the intended victim manipulates their kidnapper, takes in all the information they can, and gauge the best moment to make their move to escape or flag an alert to someone. The STRENGTH it takes to not only FIGHT, but to carefully weigh out your options and plan in such a high state of fear is truly remarkable. No one knows how they will act in a state of life-threatening fear-you got fight, flight, freeze, and fawn.. and sometimes the best way to get out of it is to fawn when needed to lull the perp into a false sense of security, and fight when you have your moment. As an autistic/adhd person, lm generally a freezer (shutdown) or a fawner and my mind cannot process the information in a helpful way or in a speedy way, so I’m always in awe of folks that meet these kinds of odds and get THEMSELVES out of it.

I can just barely imagine the strength of the instinct that she must of had to stay smart and stay alive despite the shock, fear and horror of her parent’s murder on top of her own violent abduction. She did so well in dealing with such a horrific and potentially fatal situation and such a deranged individual.

I remember "watching" this case go down in real time. . .and the speculations while Jayme was STILL MISSING made my stomach turn. The Facebook posts in this video are just a blip of the stuff I saw. So many people saying she was suspect number one while she was missing--and then even after the girl had been found and was safe there were STILL people analyzing her body language, her facial expressions, her speech patterns. . .it was disgusting. Shock and grief effects everyone differently and it's awful to think it's okay to read someone's body language, which can just not match up at all (for example, some Autistic folks like myself just go completely blank when under pressure and it makes us look cold and unfeeling when really we're trying to prevent a meltdown of emotion), and assume the girl was in on it. And double down further that you think she's lying when the police have cleared her because you "know better" than trained police officers. Give me a break.

I have wondered how Jaime is doing now. She is one smart strong and brave girl. The fact she left that despicable creeps house as soon as she could. I think if she had tried to escape before she had lulled him into a sense of false security that she was happy to be there and wouldn’t leave. That was enough to not lock her up and away. And shortly after he left she grabbed what she could to be warm enough outside in the Midwest winter. I’m so proud she found someone to help her on her journey outside of that house. I don’t remember why the dog walker didn’t bring her to her house. I’m just happy that the first house that they came to got her inside and helped her. And even after the creep was arrested. I’m glad he realized he didn’t have a chance of getting away with it and he just pled guilty. So Jaime wouldn’t have to go through explaining everything that she knew. At least he was considerate of not making her testify. I hope he is scared to death daily in his prison cell. And I hope he is forced to think about the fact he will never see her again.

I was obsessed with this case and there is information not put in this 1 90 percent of the time because he was up on on her never letting her alone he was unemployed he was at home it was only very little amount of time that she was under the bed he was there constantly 2 They shared the same bed very weird 3 He didn’t exactly say he did it right away like they said but it did confess very soon after he was arrested 4 When police came to get Jayme once she found out they arrested patterson they officers said she smiled a lot 5 When she was found and at the neighbors house she was said to be in a very dazed extremely exhausted shaking not reacting shock type of state hair extremely matted Very skinny just very flat state emotions 6 The FBI was investigating involved with this case from day one it was extremely throughly investigated from the start 7 She was given a ton of physical test done and the hospital and a mental evaluation and wasn’t reunited with her aunt/her moms older sister until late the next afternoon to legally adopt her . She gave her aunt a massive hug when she saw her aunt. 8 All her family members have said they can totally see the trauma and damage. She is different after she got back 9 Her aunt made her get into trauma therapy soon after they got her home 10 He confessed in prison had a goal of killing multiple family’s and stealing their very young preteen/early teen daughters and torturing them play mind games with them he said he wanted to see the world burn. 11 He made her play games with him all the time and forced her to act like a wife and cook all homemade food for him 12 I know from following the case in real time that they dropped the charges in the county he held Jayme in. He did sexual assault/r@pe her. But her aunt who adopted her and her aunts and uncles from both sides decided to not take those charges to trial so as to not traumatize her and make those details public. They made sure to put as little information as to what happened to her in the public records. He’s a registered sex offender 13 Her cousin who is a woman is a police officer and they saw her picture with in the house recognized her as a colleague called her then that was how they found out she lived there. 14 Her police cousin is the daughter of the older sister of Jayme mom who adopted her. 15 Jayme has said that she would reveal what happened to her and do an interview but it would be in several years so she can be healed enough emotionally to do so 16 Jayme is 18 years old this year and at college 17 Her family is extremely protective of her and came together won’t do interviews until Jayme is emotionally ready and only after she does hers 18 Barron has only had 3 murders in Almost 40 years. 19 They tore down jayme home she wanted it torn down so she wouldn’t be traumatized by seeing it 20 Her aunt who adopted her had a daycare service she also lives in Barron she looked after Jayme everyday of the week sometimes Saturdays while her parents worked for 12 years straight she was basically a second mom to Jayme.,

I'm absolutely speechless... being the father of an 11 year old daughter, I can't imagine how helpless Jaymes parents must have felt in their final moments... Hopefully, her parents are watching over her. And are proud of her! And even though they died, the strength they gifted to Jayme, is ultimately what saved her life. Just a tip from a carpenter: make sure you have 3 inch screws in your door jam into the stud to prevent the door from being kicked in. This also applies to the catch on the door if you have a solid wood door. Not all locks are equal so make sure you pick quality over price!

the wait for the police to arrive was absolutely tense. no one knew if the police was coming first or if the kidnapper was going to track her down guns blazing. i hope jamie recovers well and lives her best life, and thank you to the kind hearted individuals who protected her while they waited for the authorities.

Maybe during the escape on the street yeah that must be terrifying but once inside she was safe especially with a man holding a shotgun at the door. Still 30 minutes for responder? There had to have been red flags from this guy growing up. Parents, family, friends or school most likely look back and say, "oh ya, weird stuff going on with this guy". This type of behavior does just not manifest out of no where.

I don't live far from Barron and this case gripped all of us for the entirety. Her picture was everywhere and burned in our brains. I can recognize it from the tiniest of thumbnails. NOTHING violent happens around here and this family seemed like a random target right from the beginning because of their genuine, sweet nature. I still think about that sweet child at least monthly and hope so much for peace in her heart

i live about an hour south of barron. jayme is about the same age as me, and i still vividly remember receiving her amber alert in the middle of class in high school, the fear and sadness that washed over the room as our phones starting going off. some of my classmates had competed with her in sports (maybe cross country?). i still think about her and her family to this day and we were all so relieved to hear she was found and safe. rip the closs family

Although it may be quite and quaint up there, just south about 45 miles is Eau Claire. That, and places like La Crosse aren't much different than septic tanks like Detroit, near me. Sometimes they back up and make a mess. I remember this very well myself, and I'm so thankful she's alive and can hopefully be able to deal with the mountain of trauma she has endured. I strongly feel that you don't have to serve in the military to suffer from combat induced PTSD. That young lady was literally at war with the devil himself. I personally couldn't be more inspired by her strength and bravery!

its difficult to let go of someone you love, i was in a similar situation, my relationship of 12 years ended, but i couldn't just let her go i did all i could to get her back, i had to seek the help of a spiritual counsellor who helped me bring her back.

The police also tried to take all the credit of finding her. When she rescued herself. The community had to push on them to give Jayme the reward money when they didn't want to at first.

As crazy as this story was, what in the hell was Kyle upto... not only was he on some sicko shit, he wasted cops time investing him as a suspect. Someone needs to put that guy on a registry.

One of the many said parts of this case has gone undiscussed or maybe even brushed over is that Kyle Jaenke-Annis was sentenced to some county time to be followed by probation for breaking into the Closs home while Jayme was still missing. His family had literally begged the judge to get him some help for his obvious mental health issues. He hanged himself in his cell and died on the last day of his jail time.

I live 15 min away from where this happened and my niece was in her grade and were friends, they just graduated this last school year. I was obviously at the graduation for my niece and got to watch Jayme walk across that stage and receive her diploma, needless to say, I bawled my eyes out!

horrible thing that happened to her, but i have to say, it's wonderful that she is still alive. and the "reunited with her dog" made me so happy inside. that being said, it would have ofc been better if none of it happened. she's a hero for saving herself.

I've said it before and I'll repeat it. I don't know a single girl or woman who has not been followed, creeped on, or assaulted. So many women state that this behavior from men started when they were children. There are so many fucking sickos like the two men in this video, and it blows my mind that people try to downplay the commonality of it. And then there are even those that try to justify these creep's behavior because the girl is "old enough to know what's up". This case was horrifying for several reasons, the foremost of which being that this could happen to any of us or any of our daughters.

I remember this case like it happened yesterday. I think everyone in Wisconsin was cheering when it was announced on the news that she had escaped her kidnapper and saved herself. We were all shocked to find out she was still alive. It was such a joyous day, especially for her remaining relatives.

I'm from nearby and she was found during a varsity basketball game. They stopped everything and announced it over the loudspeakers. Then in the following weeks we would force teachers to play press conferences during class. Our math teacher had gone to school with her mom.

I remember when this happened. My heart just hurt so much for her losses. I’m so thankful she was able to escape.

So happy her and her dog were reunited. That bond must be strong as they were the only two who survived that night 😭

I really appreciate that you always include the fates of pets, and I'm so happy Jayme is reunited with her pup. The media heartlessly omit whatever happens to our furry buds, but they are our loving family whose experiences and lives matter too.

I was finishing my forensics degree in Wisconsin when all of this was going down. The speculators and conspiracy theorists infuriated me and made me NAUSEATED. I had to stay off of Facebook. I had a teacher who grew up in the area and him trying to hold back his anger towards those people was incredible. It's a miracle she's home and her bravery is unmatched. Thanks for not giving those theorests any real time of day.

I hope the young girl can move on after this. I was fostered out at her age after my last remaining parent died and it was a horrible, cold and confusing time. I'm in my sixties now and it still haunts me. It's good she's with loving grandparents.

The last sentence is what drove me to tears. She lost everyone in her household, but she was able to come back to her dog. I can imagine just how important her dog is to her healing and recovery. A sweet ending to such a horrifying story. I'm going to think about her and her recovery for a very long time, I hope she is enjoying her first year out of high school (as seen in another comment)

I know what it’s like to lose a family member but I can’t imagine what she is going through I hope that it gets better for her and remember this you are strong and powerful you can do anything you put your mind to. Hope you have a great rest of your life! And 👏🏽 for Jayme for escaping

I don’t know about this situation and country, but with some traumatic situation they’re going to a room after they’re done. There they can talk with each other and/or with a professionals (if needed). This is for medics, firefighters and police. I’ve seen this on tv, where a paramedic said this and showed the room. I don’t if it’s special room or a break room or whatever. Dispatchers can also take a break after a heavy situation (I can imagine after hearing the lady scream, you’ll need a break).

My heart goes out to Jayme. Jeane, you absolute angel. The way the dispatcher says, "good job." My heart❤️
