Missing Child Featured In 'Runaway Train' Video Shares Her Story (EXCLUSIVE)

Ойын-сауық

It's been 30 years since Soul Asylum released the video for their 1993 hit song "Runaway Train." It featured 36 real-life children who had gone missing, 21 of whom were found or returned home as a result of the video. Now, Access Hollywood's Zuri Hall exclusively sits down with one of them - Elizabeth Wiles, now known as Liz Vatovec - to hear about the impact of this life-changing video. Zuri also speaks to Soul Asylum frontman Dave Pirner about the inspiration behind the video and shares a message for him from Liz.

Soul Asylum should remake this song every so many years with different pictures of missing kids.

Great idea! I'm glad to tell you that is exactly what has been, and is being, done. Versions with currently missing children in them have been issued. I don't know what the total of located children is now. It might be a large amount by now. I do know that the original video led to 26 missing children being found. Not all of them were still alive. Those killings have been solved, and the murderers sent to prison.

Having been physically and then mentally and emotionally abused all my childhood and even into my twenties by my mother, I can relate totally with this song. I eventually found the strength to walk out and never go back or have contact with the family. The lines ‘A little out of touch, a little insane, just easier than dealing with the pain’ is so true. People in the military thought I was an arsehole, and I was, but nobody tried finding out why. One of my bosses, a senior officer interviewed me one day and told me that I should go home on leave. He definitely didn’t like or expect me to tell him where to go!

The song isn't about runaway or abused children though. It's about depression. The music video has nothing to do with what the song is actually about. Look it up and what Dave actually says about it

I suppose you're just trying to make a (weak) joke. Here's an answer, anyway. Dave Pirner, lead singer-songwriter of Soul Asylum is in this video. Not Axl Rose. I saw a recent photo of Axl, and he and Dave do resemble each other. Maybe more so now, as Dave no longer has a beard.
