If there was something that Miss Universe surpassed Miss World during those years was the opening numbers. All the contestants participated live on the stage and the music and fanfare was just spectacular. And then came the parades of nations where the delegates introduced themselves full of excitement and emotion unlike the Miss World contestants' cold introduction.

But over the years Miss Universe doesn't really show the costume parades like before. They still announce the best costumes but not like before

She failed at the two biggest beauty contests, despite the fact of being a heavy favorite. Interesting that she lost MU81 and MU84 to Venezuelans Irene Sáez and Astrid Carolina Herrera, respectively.

@@piznoctsauo8141 I wouldn’t say she “failed” as she was a finalist in both contests. I think it was a quite achievement. However , in my opinion, she looked a bit too girlish in the 1981 Miss Universe contest. Her hairdo and evening gown also looked too casual almost to the point of “unkempt” Unfortunately in the Miss World contest here , she went overboard to the other extreme with that peroxide blond perm hair and flashy blue gown. She looked too mature here and her figure was not as slim as in 1981.

@@escpat I've heard the dress she was going to wear in the MU disappeared and they had to improvise another one.

Best were Venezuela, Brazil, Canada and Holland. I thought the beautiful Miss Chile deserved a semifinal spot.

When Canada got 1st runner up to anyone who knows geography it gave away the fact that Venezuela had won since Venezuela was already awarded Miss Américas ahead of Canada which is also a part of the Américas.

@@ajuansilva7850 Which other Continental Queen could have won? If Venezuela is best in the Americas, which means she placed higher than Canada. How is it possible to have another winner if Canada placed second place overall. The only other girl that did better than Canada was Venezuela, hence she's the only logical winner.

Exactly. It was clear that as Canada got 1st RU, but she wasn't "the best from the Americas", that Venezuela would take the crown. Nice obs. Obvious yet no one has talked about it.

@@ajuansilva7850 You're the one who got it wrong. Back then "The 5 Continental Queens of Beauty" was the award given to "the overall best" candidate from each geographic region. So if the representative from a region was named in second place to the crown but there's another from that same region still in the mix, it's crystal clear that other is the winner.

Miss Kenya Khadjia Adam Ismail went to become a great model and Yves Saint Laurent's muse in the late 80s.

Miss Kenya is stunning!! I guess itwas still way too early to crown an African beauty. She became one of the supermodels of the eighties and early nineties. Up until the late nineties Miss World top 15 was very much a commonwealth kind of situation.

Another flaw of this contest is that in the swimsuit segment the presenter doesn't mention the country names just the names of the contestants except a few of them. This way the audience doesn't know who is who. This contest is really badly organized.

Even she handles de MW contest, she seems more beautiful that many winner through the years.

Miss Brazil, Adriana Alves de Oliveira, should had won in 1981, as Miss Universe, and in 1984, as Miss World. Nowadays, 2021, she has no plastic surgery and is still stunning!
