I love your analysis of DR on the last round. I thought she was going to kill the top 3 Q&A but she did not connect at all. Miss Venezuela also seemed to have lost her way in the first half of the question and then suddenly she added designer of dreams. I personally wanted DR or Venezuela to win from their performances in the preliminary, but Miss USA really proved that she deserves to be Miss Universe!

I give kudos to beauty queens nowadays. They are really trained for this. Besides being authentic or relatable to your answers, sometimes you have to be strategic as well. Strategic in such a way that you share your personal experience (in 30/45 seconds) and just be a voice. That no matter who wins, they're sure in what they are saying and that they have left a mark and gain inspiration to the world... the universe rather. (me while washing my dishes and watching Nics' vlog) haha

PR's answer felt like a canned pageant patty answer. It felt like all template answers and buzzphrases woven into one. Whereas US, Vene, and DR all provided more tangible answers. I think we're done with the analogies and blank rhetorics type of answers. All in all, I feel like we got the right top 3 if solely based on the top5 q&a.

Hi Nicole, I don’t agree with ur views on expanding Rbonney’s answer regarding age limitation. The question that was specifically about women in the competition, not about women in general. Rbonney answered directly and concisely without any hesitation. If she did point out age limitation in general, then she would not be answering the question directly. When u said she could have added an inspiring message she did: if not now, then when? Did u not hear the cheering from the crowds after she said that

Yes, it’s really just an idea to make the content of the answer richer. And with MU setting the “standard of beauty” in a lot of ways, of course pageant criteria goes beyond pageantry. It’s a platform that helps give further validation to women of every kind. Like how they have allowed trans women and now mothers and married women to join. So yes, it does go beyond pageantry and paints a bigger picture.

Venezuela and Curacao were the weakest on top 5 QA, but Venezuela had more tangible previous work and I agree with the top 3 as they were selected. DR is beautiful, Venezuela is enchanting and the USA is the most well rounded. That said PR's answer, confidence and catwalk were fire 🔥 a very competitive candidate.

Ashley Carino's ambition to be a "Space Cadet", not in the derogatory sense but as a term used in the 1948 futuristic novel by Robert Heinlein, or to be the first Miss Universe in space, did her in - though not as bad as Miss Universe Ireland 2019 Fionnghuala O'Reilly. At the time of her MU edition, the latter, a holder of systems engineering and science communication degrees, was actually working as a Datanaut with NASA yet she didn't even make it to the first cut of the competition. Which should clue us in that Miss Universe org. wants the universal queen to be witty & smart but NOT TOO academically accomplished. 🤔🤔🤔 Think back and think hard, none of the 71 of the beauty platform's crowned queens had a doctoral degree (Ph.D) or first professional degree, such as in law or medicine, when they were crowned. To name a few as examples: the first Miss Universe (1952) Armi Krusela of Finland was only a Middle Schooler (junior high school), Gloria Diaz had just finished high school, Margie Moran was starting college, Pia Wurtzbach at least was given a Culinary Arts certificate and Catriona Gray acquired an online graduate certificate in music theory. R'Bonney Gabriel has a degree in fashion design minor in fibers.

The problem with pageants is that generally speaking, most of the girls don't have opinions of their own. As a pageant host who interacts with these girls backstage or during rehearsals, you see most of them busy memorizing answers with matching notebooks to boot. So most of them end up trying to philosophize their answers to very simple questions. I look forward to the day when they can just answer with honesty and candor.

It's not really the depth of the answers but the delivery, the conviction and self- assuredness of the girls. Unlike us armchair judges and fans who have enough time to review the question and answers, the judges only have a brief moment to digest , review the answer before the next girl is called. So first positive impression is so important.

To be honest I feel like Miss Venezuela’s first answer was hard because you have to search for something really fast but make sure it’s something you’re willing to share and not have it hurt your scores or be misinterpreted. And also the interpretation in Spanish for shame is the same as embarrassment so in Spanish we don’t have the difference of terms and I got her point. A lot of people leave their dreams because they are embarrassed and that’s enough for them to give up.

Excellent analysis but in the final questions and answers I wished you have analysed them more in depth. Like you did in the first ones! I agreed 👍 in your observations particularly regarding Miss Venezuela. Although the last answer was memorable is “Designer of Dreams” Very poetic but unrealistic for worldwide women. A woman nowadays doesn’t need a designer of dreams. A true powerful woman takes their own dreams and go to get them , making them true. Therefore the best answer was given by Miss USA. Now it’s the time!!!

One has to go deeper into the contestants' backgrounds to understand why and how they answered in the way they did in both segments of the Q&A. For Miss Dominican Republic Andreína Martínez, she lucked out in her judge's question because it gave her the opportunity to put in a nutshell - with the limited time allowed - her BIO that was submitted to Miss Universe. Currently working at The Women’s Equality Center, a non-profit run by women to guard the rights of women in Latin America and the Caribbean, after early post schooling internships with a NY State senator and, later, in the Congress office of a female US senator, the question was directly relevant to the scope of her professional assignments - especially with regards to the prevalence of teenage pregnancy and child brides in the region where she's from. My guess - and we could only guess - is that she didn't score higher with her answer in that what she's doing for an "advocacy" is really a job, one that she's being paid for doing, and not purely from the goodness of her heart. Not quite the "transformational leader" in the essential meaning of the phrase. Nevertheless, I must point out that what probably secured her Top 3 placement is that ahe was a winner of Google’s Pay it Forward Award which she received for the center's work toward her community. Amanda Dudamel's "shame" about going into fashion designing as an educational and career option was simply because she happens to belong to an expat Venezuelan family among the privileged few who can actually go through life without having to worry about earning a living nor to acquire a profession for herself. After all, she's the dotted daughter of Venezuelan football star Rafael Dudamel & an architect -realtor mother. Raised in various countries (Canada-Colombia-Chile-South Africa) or wherever her father was contracted to play or coach, she lived a life of financial freedom that her oppressed compatriots under the dictator Nicolas Maduro can only dream about. So for her to go into fashion deigning and start CATERING to clients' whims and desires instead of being THE client herself would pose an existential dilemma that can only produce the feeling of (initial) shame and doubts about its sustainability for a rich girl's lifestyle. As for R'Bonney's initial concise answer, it was a smart move not to belabor her age status because the judges must have already gone over her BIO and know what she's done and what's she's been doing all these 13 years as founder-designer of her sustainable fashion brand. And this is the big difference between her and the 1st RU Amanda Dudamel: R'Bonney has already been a "transformational leader" and "a force for good" with her advocacy WAY BEFORE Amanda learned the nuances of transformation and sustainability. Also, let's face it, R'Bonney's has a chicer fashion sense than the younger designer's attempts to impress the judges and the public during the Prelim & Final Evening Gown competition. Her choices, while colorful, for me bordered on questionable taste and not being age-appropriate.

Thank you so much for sharing this! Also on miss Venezuela’s answer-that makes so much sense now. But the thing is, judges can really only judge what she gives during Q&A. It would’ve been such a rich and inspiring story to hear on stage!

  • @eyegames

    @eyegames

    Жыл бұрын

@@NicoleCordoves You're welcome. But I'm sure the judges have poured over the contestants' BIOs from day 1 when they were invited to come and make up the panel of judges. It wouldn't be right otherwise, would it? I suspect that Amanda Dudamel, with her uppity air in sharing her "shame" of choosing to become a fashion designer, must have lost some points to R'Bonney Gabriel because the MU org. was clear about looking for an actively committed, diligent and non-wishy-washy ambassador for the brand. Oh sure, after being crowned Miss Venezuela, Ms. Dudamel immediately hatched her social media interview podcast that featured her MU 2022 competitors but it wasn't something that she can say benefited anyone except mainly herself and in portraying how she's good with the English language. It wasn't for the disenfranchised nor for the downtrodden unlike the beneficiaries of Ms. Gabriel's 13-year initiative of teaching sewing to women victimized by human trafficking and domestic violence. Ms. Dudamel did initiate a socal impact project named "Emprendiendo e Impactando" during her Miss Venezuela reign - much like Celeste Cortesi's sudden immersion in Save The Children and Smile Train right before heading to MU competition. And at the competition, she was astutely promoting her newly launched eponymous clothing collection in Venezuela, her first since her graduation from a fashion school in Rome, Italy - wherever and whenever anyone asked about the outfits she was wearing.

@@NicoleCordoves I really felt that DR had a very good chance of winning the crown, even the videos of Anne that came out after the pageant showed how she was astounded by DRs beauty. But somewhere along the minutes of she made it to the top 3 she started to be robotic and making these weird look ala kontrabida, I dont know maybe thats how she fought the nerves leading to a weak and lacking answer Venezuela, no matter how bubbly this girl was during the whole competiton which truly sets her apart from the top 3, Amanda was destined to be just the 1st runner up, I dont care whether the Latinos felt she should be the one and how theyre making a big deal of the million followers on her IG, girl, YES! You are love... you are love by your people! But lemme just remind the world eveybody saw how she made use of the translation card to buy few seconds for her to think. Excuse me, but she can think english perfectly hence she can speak the language. So stop! USA gave a performance of her life, parang ginawan nya ng thesis ang performance ni Catriona and Pia! The way she attacked the competiton was very Catriona in terms of how she prepared her cape, collaborating with Rian with her gowns and all those sustainable OOTDs which either a hit or miss but you cant give credit to the girl who made everything from scratch. This alone, was enough narrative for a very good story for a Miss Universe! Memtx Nicole, I agree with you that she perfectly executed the Pia fomula on her final question, I have no doubt in my mind that she will be crown, she was smart enough to use the words transformational leader and force fpr good but what really made her answer strong was ramdam mo na nagawa/nagagawa na sya at hinde eme eme lang. Yun na! Kung me hihilingin lang ako ke God for Rbonney, bumaba sana ang hairline nya bukod don perpek na sya! 😆😅😃😂 Love yoi memtz!🤗😚😙😗

Miss Nicole I think your analysis on the answer of Miss USA was more confusing . Because her answer was the most relatable and empowering to us all women she says" age doesn't define us women get it?

Hi Nicole, Great channel and love your insights into the answers of these amazing women. I always admire their courage to put themselves through such pressure cookers and have enough grace and strength to answer these questions off the cuff, in front of a global audience. I respectfully disagree with you on Puerto Rico though. Her answer was extremely good if one did not hear the actual question. To me it was so canned and sounded like she was throwing anything at it that might stick. The judges wanted to know how she can represent all the other women. My interpretation of this question was that the judges were seeking to see if she had formed alliances with the other contestants and whether she had plans to collaborate with them on various future projects as she goes into her reign. So for me I think she missed the mark here.

Miss Nicole I think we're both aware that there's a time limit...Miss USA's answer was brief and concise....when she said that age doesn't define women, i think that's already enough...no need to enumerate those things that you have mentioned.

Hi Nicole! Greetings from Toronto, Canada! Thank you so much for your in-depth analysis of the q & a's. These ladies in the top 5 and top 3 did really well. It was a bloodbath and so intense. But Miss USA is my number 1 favorite since the preliminary and her answers in the finals sealed the deal. However, Miss Nicole, you've failed or you made a mistake to show the caption or description of R'Bonney's final answer. When you showed her pic in the very last part, you made a mistake by putting Ms Dominican Repblic's answer on😆😀 the right side instead of Miss USA's. I think you can still edit that right?

Why is it easy for some people to discount the powerful answer of Miss USA not realizing that these girls only have 30 seconds to answer so you have to understand how they are limited to the time pressure compounded by the sheer tension of quickly thinking on your feet without buckling down. On the other hand, Puerto Rico's answer was something that you hear on pageants every year and with a native speaker of English delivering the answer, it ain't cut the muster as Americans say it

Miss Venezuela’s answer “… designer of dreams… “ doesn’t have substance at all, even if it sounded catchy/poetic/dreamy. But, let’s be real and be truly objective: Miss USA’s answers were consistently smart, authentic, substantive , eloquently & sweetly delivered - all of which set her distinctly apart from all other extraordinary beautiful top candidates. To further convince myself, I reviewed many of her other interviews.. and I was totally impressed by her sweet eloquence 👏👏👆❤!!

Dear Nicole, Venezuela's answer is not questionable or hanging, you can clearly uderstand why she felt shame on becoming a fashion designer where she doubt it also that Fashion Designing could not sustain her future life cause it is a up and down path of luck but still she pursue for it cause its her passion and dream. For USA, MUO now is looking for a transformational leader, she want an age increase because she has that feeling being pressured to miss her only chance to win because of the age limitation, she felt being Force but not for Good timing. For Puerto Rico, everthing seems well delivered, no hanging spaces, very great answer but, i can feel her answer was all rehearsed just like how the way she deliver, you can see it in her eyes, she didnt speak from her heart but from her mind worried to missed every single line as she is answering. For Curacao, she is just typical other newbie for top 5 finalist, her presence is just like her answer, very BASIC ( im in the top 5, i dont have to win and to answer it with a bang cause im already proud of where i am now) tsk tsk. And for Dominican Republic, she may sound Boring and Not well delivered but as you pay attention closely to her answer, every line is great, just like a story that turns into a history.

I personally dont think so. I think USA was a clear 1st in Top5 Q&A. It was a mic drop. And I was quite sure she sealed her crown after top5, and the top3 q&a just to secure her win if she didnt win major mistakes, even if she did average in top3 she would still win i think.
