The pose and the walk of Miss Philipines is one of the best in Miss UNiverse History! I means, look at that!, Shes like very professional indeed. classy,elegant,beauty,confidence, WOW 8D!

I remember watching this!!! My fave was Philippines for the crown until final Q. It was Philippines 1st, Spain 2nd and Botswana 3rd. Then, Botswana aced the interview. I was so proud and happy for Miriam that night. And was hopeful she won. That answer by Mpule truly deserved the crown. Said it like it is!!! Mpule may not be the prettiest of the lot but if you guys have met her in real life and spoken to her, you would understand why she deserved and won that CROWN!! She is an amazing woman!

Your honesty is very much appreciated. Everyone is always obsessed with Miss Philippines. She isn’t/wasn’t the prettiest of the lot either. I watched this pageant too when it aired. I agree, Miss Botswana deserved to win. She was the complete package. I’m a former pageant girl and I’ve watched these pageants for years. Folks always assume it’s just about how someone looks or their walk when the interview sessions are generally the most determining factor. All the women are beautiful in varying degrees, but it’s not JUST about looks, an assumption too many make. Most always it’s the candidate whose not only beautiful but who is also intelligent, articulate, and who has a great personality. The audience loved her personality. The winner will need to be able to communicate well far more often as Miss Universe than how she looks in a swimsuit or if she has a model walk. She always also needs to be likeable. The winner is usually the candidate who did all of these things well, the complete package. On this night, that was the deserving Miss Botswana. I’ve since heard really great things about her. She deserved that win. I’m pleased to read your response and to see that you noticed that too. The Philippines is a country that seems to be OBSESSED with pageants so in that regard arguably they may very well be quite jaded when it comes to their candidates. That hasn’t changed much even today.

Miss Botsawana is comfortable at being candid... She was only 18 when she joined this pageant, though at a very young age she expressed her thoughts very inteligently thus gave her enough aces to win the crown. Miss Philippines on the other hand looked very classy and well poised... almost fragile in a way... very elegant. Can't help but to appreciate Miss Spain aswell... Very pretty and demure. I love the top 3 here. love Miss South Africa too and Miss India.

Best top 10 ever in Miss Universe even up until today in 2022. It was such an honest top 10 and also a recognition of diversity. You picked the best of the best this year. No sash factor involved.

MY GOODNESS! I REMEMBER DURING THIS TIME MIRIAM QUIAMBAO JOINED THE TOP 10, TOP 5 AND ALMOST GOT IT ! IT WAS LIKE MANNY PACQUIAO WAS FIGHTING AND EVERYONE IN THE PHIL PUT A HALT ON WHAt they are doing took focus on the pageant! IT WAS REALLY ROARING ON ALL THE NEIGHTBORHOOD! SO EXCITING MOMENT!

@Max75Phil1672 Actually, Miriam Quiambao went to Venezuela few months before the Miss Universe pageant to train. So I guess that partially explains why they have similar projection.

Miriam certainly delivered the goods in the evening gown rounds. She's the only contestant in that round that failed to get a score below 9.00. Her Halston gown is really nice though it was modified with the addition of the beadworks which even made it better.

this was when MU gave the crown to the girl with the best gown now they might as well not have the final question coz the girl who wins now never answer the question...

Where the hell is Miss Ghana gonna go and catch a fish? Miss Philippines is the best of all the Miss Universe contenders until now... No one can beat her cat walk and amazing poise...

Filipino candidates should learn a lot from Miriam Quiambao's elegant and confident cat walk.

if i'm not mistaken, miriam quiambao (s philippines) was sent to venezuela for a crash coourse training prior to competing in MU

Miriam was diligent in attending PD classes that was why she was able to get that far. The recent Mses. Philippines were too lazy to attend so they weren't able to flaunt themselves that well

it was the swimsuit which killed her chance of further advancing. hey Tommy Hilfiger gown though ok was not enough since she was able to compensate for her low Swimsuite score as oppose to both Philippines and Spain scoring really high after a dismal interview round.

I guess the judges were after good silhouette (this explains Miriam's akimbo) and elegant walk (unlike Miss Jamaica's dance-like walk). That's what Miriam learnt from Venezuela (good passerella) and what our bets for this year should study.

How come my statement is biased? It's just my own and personal opinion, I adore her because of the effort and poise she showed representing the country. And Im not into that runner ups, whether she got the cut or not but still its my own opinion to her.

It's a Venus cut actually. That cut was the trend the following year when MU was held in Cyprus. Even Lara Dutta wore the same cut. And many imitated her legendary and iconic posed the following year.

Really u dont have any sense dear....did u see her final answer.....she is really a beauty wid brains....

I have nothing against the black girls (in fact I root for a lot) but I think Botswana pales in comparison really

wao Venezuela altísima en puntaje a pesar del que vestido a mí no me gusta mucho, pero ella tiene mucha personalidad. La mas hermosa en traje de baño fue sin dudas Phillipines quien debió ser Miss Universe 1999, tambien estuvo bellísima Spain y tercero Venezuela. Las demás overrated. El estilo con los escorts y el cantante estuvo muy bueno, cosas que no se ven hoy en día en este concurso que cada año decae mas.

Ese era el año de Filipinas o como en año 2010, no como los 2 últimos (Pia & Catriona) un par de mocos que ganaron.

Miss India 1999 se parece muchisimo a Miss India/MU 1994. En los dos desfiles, desfiló identico a como lo hizó MU 1994. El traje de Gala muy parecido también. ¿Pensaria que con eso iba a ganar?. La verdad, hubiese quedado más contento con ella de MU que con Bostwana. Miss PR también se parece harto a Miss PR/MU 1993: Dayanara Torres. Se parecen harto, solo que MU 1993 tenía el cuerpo más embolatado que Miss PR 1999. Y aún asi fue MU. Ese concurso es un FRAUDE. Lo único justo fue MU 1996.

Ah si!. Y que consiguio?. Lo único que consiguio fue ser una de las MU más feas de toda la historia. La decada de los 90`s tuvo la particularidad de haber elegido a la mejor MU de toda la historia (Alicia Machado) y al mismo tiempo a algunas de las peores (MU 1995, MU 1997, MU 1998 y MU 1999).
