She is middle of the pack. Nowhere close to being the best. But I personally agree she should have made it to the top 5, probably in the 4th or 5th position. Seriously, though, absolutely no chance at beating Chile.

Miss Philippines is so natural, articulate , with poise and confident when she answered the questions. Her score is not fair for her. She must be in the top 5. She’s gorgeous.

Italy should have won...Philippines gorgeous...

Yes, interview... i love this portion of the pageant ! Bob Barker had been conducting this job from 1967 til his retirement in 1987 (21 years).

Hands off to Bob Barker very articulate. I noticed he is able to bring out the best in a contestant.

@@freedom584 Miss Philippines is too articulate and pretty but the racist judges could seem to care less. Noon pa grabe nang dayain ang Pilipinas. Alam kasi nilang lalamunin ng buo ang mga patakbuhin (run-of-the-mill)nilang mga paborito pag pinapasok sa top 5. Geraldine Asis, was well loved by intelligent international press then. They, especially the US-based, called her up in Singapore asking her why did she lose? Pebbles remembers answering them, "It's the judges decision, but I really tried hard." Malas nila pinapasok nila si Philippines sa top 10. Nalaman tuloy ng lahat na harap-harapan nilang dinadaya ang mga mas matatalinong mga tao kesa sa mga pinili nilang mga bopol (idiots/insane) na hurado (judges).

I think her personality didn't stand out as it should have .. however I think her interview was cohesive and clear.

@@leslieassang494 look at the girls in the top 5. Miss Venezuela, USA and Puerto Rico looks old. Miss Italy looks sad and wasted. Its the judges decision. Anyway Geraldine "Pebbles" Villaruz Asis, ranked 6 that year behind Puerto Rico.

Peru had excellent answers. I did not understand the low score. What were the judges were taking into account? Peru was one of the best in Q&A.

Language barrier bet the interpreter and Ms. Venezuela. Im wondering why Italy ended up at 1st runner up. No wonder she is beautiful but her answer was too weak. Phils. was articulate while Puerto Rico was confident and clever

If Ms. Philippines competed the following year, she would have made top 5. It was mostly Asians in 1988, and Thailand won.

Y’all can tell that interpreter for Miss Venezuela is from España based on accent alone…..VERY lost in translation indeed 🙄

why is it unfair?? She sounded v nervous, no where close to the kind of confidence shown by Chile, Puerto Rico, USA, even a weak contestant like Peru sounded more articulate than she did.

Why are people saying Philippines was excellent in this segment? She is fine. Excellent? Nah. The only one who blew it out of the park is Miss Chile. Puerto Rico wins points for her spontaneity. Italy has so much charisma you can’t help but love her. USA wins points for her eloquence even though I’m lukewarm with her. Miss Philippines speaks a bit like a robot, not too much personality or charisma. A bit of a middle-of-the-road performance just like Peru and Venezuela. Fine but let’s stop pretending she’s EXCELLENT. She isn’t.

@@manchestercity961 Singapore was underscored and Sweden was pretty but not very memorable. She just was kind of "there". Turks & Caicos got the short end of the stick when she revealed she had all these dogs because one of the females got pregnant. Kudos for her and the family in keeping the pack, but her interview became a soapbox for Barker to promote pet neutering/spaying.

While i love Pebbles, i agree with you regarding her interview performance. When she mentioned that it was the first thing she was gonna do if she wins Miss Universe, it caused her scores to go down... But she was confident, sassy and articulate

This was a really weak top 10 for the most part. I’d argue that peru, singapore, Turks and Caicos and Sweden didn’t deserve to be in the top 10 at all. There were much stronger candidates that year in Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago, Japan, Dominican Republic and especially Colombia.

Philippines, Peru, Singapore had no business in the top 10... Turks & Caicos was gorgeous but fell prey to Barker's snarkiness!

Our miss Philippines is charming and articulate. She is pretty too but not miss universe pretty
