Martha foi a última Miss Universo Brasileira. Ela é de Salvador-Bahia, a minha cidade. Eu tinha 7 anos quando assisti esse concurso em preto e branco. Nunca me esquecerei. Foi uma comoção!! Naquela época os concursos de beleza eram valorizados, apreciados. Todo o mundo diante da TV. A beleza de Martha era tão impressionante que quando ela saia de casa, as pessoas comentavam a sua estonteante formosura

I believe Anne Marie paved the path for the black beauties in the 60s and 70s. Yes she should have become Miss Universe but Miss Brasil also had a beautiful canditate. For now the history tells us that Miss Curacao became 1st runner up. Hopefully one day we will win the crown.

In 1968 an american run pageant was not about to crown a black woman miss universe it was still a victory to see a black woman get that far no question miss Brazil was beautiful but she couldn't even answer the final question thank you miss curacao back in 68 how many gorgeous black women were seen on tv she had caucasian features and beautiful rich dark coloring

Curacao was so stunning and should have won this year. While Curacao answered her final answer very eloquently, Brasil didn't even answer her's! The results might well have been fixed for Brasil since the organisation probably didn't want a black girl to represent them. I mean we're talking 1968 so yeah...... But Curacao remains the real Miss Universe 1968!

WTH? The last (3) women who should have been standing were Miss Curacao, Miss USA and Miss Venezuela PERIOD! How the hell did Miss Brazil win is beyond any sensible and fair. The only thing that matters most after reaching the (5) finalist is your public speaking skills and as you can see, Miss Brazil was incapable of communicating effectively during the Final Question. So how did she win? As far as I'm concern Miss USA, Curacao and Venezuela were "Shim Sham"...Smdh....

The prettiest? Apparently, Luis Sergio Maffei, you don't understand that Miss Universe is a beauty pageant, not a pretty pageant. So therefore, being poised, elegant and having intelligence plays a big role in the selecting the winner. So now you should understand why Miss Brazil was obviously the wrong choice.

You are cruel: you want a young girl, on a huge stage, watched by one billion people, to give a "very clever" answer to an unknown question in three seconds...Put yourself in her place and see if you'd feel calm and ready for such a big task...Come off it! Just for your "knowledge", the difference of points between Brazil and Curaçao was one of the highest of all time, and facial and body beauty, at that time, were the important things. The actual MU gave a ridiculous and slavish answer to her american BOSSES, and, in spite of being COMPLETELY FAKE ( green lenses, teeth capes) and having a HORRIBLE body, won! Leave the past there, and work for a better future, if you have, at least, an IQ of 50, although your reasoning as to the difference between "beauty" and "pretty" points to the opposite direction... End of conversation, you don't measure up!!!!
