Miss Saigon and The Vietnam War - Behind the photo - Magic

Ойын-сауық

2015 marks the 40th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon.
On April 30, 1975, Vietnamese Communist forces captured the South Vietnamese capital of Saigon, signalling the end of decades of war that tore apart the country.
To commemorate the occasion, Magic and Miss Saigon have created a short film that tells the story behind the epic musical love story that has entertained millions across the world.
The Magic 105.4 day starts with Neil Fox and Verity Geere hosting Magic Breakfast, sees Angie Greaves easing the long drive home and Danny Pietroni calming the hustle and bustle of the city with Mellow Magic.
Magic 105.4 is guaranteed to lift your mood and put a smile on your face whenever and wherever you are.

    I am a prostitute in Detroit. "The movie in my mind" resignates well with me. I've also seen "Miss Saigon" on Broadway and I thank you for this gem.

    So when is the film version finally being made? Miss Saigon could be a wonderful film! I hope they will shoot it with as many Vietnamese actors/actresses as possible to make it realistic. Maybe they could shoot in Vietnam itself too some scenes.

    Have they ever found who the girl and her mother were on that photo? Wouldn't it be humane to try to locate them and re-unify them again (if possible)?

    I know a Vietnamese-Chinese boy, 5 siblings, well educated and very good jobs in NY. Possible in Vietnam? He is 42 year old, about the time the war ended they came as refugees.

    The answer you're looking for is quite simple. They've yet to find a Vietnamese woman who can both sing and act the demanding role of Kim. They've held auditions in Vietnam and in other Asian countries for decades and have found most of the talent for their numerous worldwide productions in the Philippines.

  • @MrAllmightyCornholioz

    @MrAllmightyCornholioz

    @@SoulShines4U HAHA okay, by that logic let's cast Kim as a black woman then because there are more black female singers than Filipino female singers. I mean SURELY you can't find Viet singers are are able to retell the story of their parents with better connection and those willing to have a career in acting are just as passionate as non-Viets casting in a role. So why not hire someone domestically? Oh wait! We have Viets in America too!

  • @SoulShines4U

    @@MrAllmightyCornholioz - Don't you think that if the casting agents had ever found a Vietnamese woman who could sing the vocally demanding role of Kim for 8 shows a week they would have cast her already? You're looking for some big casting conspiracy against the Vietnamese and are dead set on finding one. Good luck with that. 🙄 The fact of the matter is that if the creative team behind Miss Saigon ever found a Vietnamese woman to play the part of Kim they'd scream it from the rooftops because it'd be a public relations dream come true and they could probably milk it for a ton of money in sales off the publicity. But yeah, I'm sure they'd rather shoot themselves in the foot and reject any and all Vietnamese women because secretly they are racist and don't want any Vietnamese people whatsoever in their show that's set in Vietnam. Riiight... 🙄
