I met Heather around Christmas time of ‘95. I was 11 years old. Being born with hearing loss, I really looked up to Heather. My mom was able to arrange a meeting with her when she was a guest speaker at a local mega church in California. What a blessing it was to meet her. She was so sweet and very cool.

Well exactly, but in a year that the pageant decided to make a political statement, Cullen never stood a chance. Very disappointing, and even unfair to a certain degree.

Can you please load up Miss America 1996 when Heather Whitestone crowns Miss America 1996. I missed that on television. I'd love to see the talent and who won. Who Heather Whitestone crowns.

A very nice gentleman named Carlos posted the crowning of Miss America 1996 a few days ago! SPOILER ALERT! Johnny Mathis sings the famous song! No sign of Shawntel’s talent performance, though (she sang “The Woman in the Moon”, if I recall correctly).

Miss Ohio and NJ were also beautiful

Miss Georgia (Andrea Krahn) had MY vote. She was the most beautiful & talented.

I wish Cullen had won.

Cullen would have been a great Miss America too. I love how she had multicultural awareness as her platform. But my heart lies with Heather. :)

@@mysticgirl916 I know that now, (remember this comment was posted 8 years ago.) (I only asked because i didn't think his name was included as part of the credits.)

I guess the Miss America pageant chose 1995 as the year they wished to make a statement. Was it necessarily wrong? No, but if you were Miss Virginia or Miss New Jersey (both of whom in my opinion who were infinitely more deserving of the win), it's somewhat disconcerting to know that you never stood a chance despite your superior qualities and beauty. Very disappointing and actually quite unfair.

I agree with you about Cullen, she was everything! Interesting fact, Georgia wasn't the original winner of Miss Georgia. The winner resigned the next day.

Heather Whitestone won preliminary awards in both talent and swimsuit, and radiated both inward and outward beauty. She was extremely deserving of the crown.
