Misery Toadstool vs Treeguards

Plant 9 stacks of pine cones near toad, use Skeletor or Woodie to chop. Rollback if needed if no guards spawn, lead them and pacify nearby. Repeat until 30 treeguards. Plant 1 pinecone on toad, lead guards to toad, pacify. Chop the cap, PROFIT. Lead guards out, pacify, reuse or relocate the guards for later use.

I gota question, how do you get the treeguards to stay put, when I make them fall asleep with pinecones they just start roaming aroun after a while

As per the wiki, if you pacify them, they stay put. They only roam if they kill their target.

Planting trees near them as a % of making them pacifist. If you ever cut trees etc around them they will wake up. They wont wake up unless attacked (splash damage or direct)
Just out of curiosity... How many tree guards are there? Or how many tree totems do i need to make?
