Misirlou , meaning Egypt is the title of a GREEK HELLENIC Rebetiko style song, which is now very popular in four completely different types of music: rebetiko , Middle Eastern folk music, Jewish music played at weddings and celebrations ( Klezmer ), and surf rock .The song was first played by the rebetika orchestra of Michalis Patrinos in Athens , in 1927 . As with almost all early rebetika songs, the original composer of the song remained unknown, and the composition was entrusted to the company leader. The melody was probably composed collectively by the musicians, as was often the case at the time, while the lyrics were almost certainly by an artist named Patrinos. In the original version of the song, the name of the girl of the title was pronounced by Patrinos "Mousourlou", with a heavy Smyrnaean accent.

This performance is one of the best I have listened to this classic song. I have heard the original version by the greek singer of Smyrne who recorded it in NY in 1927, the Armenian singer in the 50's, the soundtrack of the 80's, the fantastic version of black eye peas, and the greek version of the Olympic games in 2004 in Athens. The first version travels you in the Arabian nights of Egyptian summer nights or brings bitter memories of the flames in Smyrnae. This specific one travels you in the explosively magical universe
