I used to do this as a kid, get some of my dad's chrome polish and hand polish some coin I'd found on the ground until I got it as shiny as I could. Fascinated me. Here I am now, 30+ years later, and just now finding out this is a whole section on KZread 🤯🤯

Which is absolutely correct since polishing removes details from the engraving and devalues it considerably.

I polished my coin last night....it shines like a brand new......coin .

Its sure worth more than 5c now :)))

Any metal that is polished to a high gloss is very prone to scratches. Especially copper because it is a soft metal. In addition, copper oxidizes after a while.

I've been pondering this point for a little while now actually. Numistically the coin is now worthless. well... worth 5 cents. but... could you convince a collector that if they are going to have a coin with no premium in the first place. thats value over 40 years has left it still worth 5 cent. that this shiny version is actually worth something purely for its aesthetic appearance? Could you sell polished coins like this as decorations or as part of epoxy creations like paperweights? could you transform something with no extra value into something worth more? Hell that coin seems worth a hell of a lot more than when you started to me.
