Miriam Makeba is an icon and national symbol, symbolizing the flame of unity in cultural diversity.
Zenzile Miriam Makeba (4 March 1932 - 9 November 2008), nicknamed Mama Africa, was a Grammy Award-winning South African singer and civil rights activist. In the 1960s, she was the first artist from Africa to popularize African music around the world. She is best known for the song "Pata Pata", first recorded in 1957 and released in the U.S. in 1967. She recorded and toured with many popular artists, such as Harry Belafonte, Paul Simon, and her former husband Hugh Masekela.
Makeba campaigned against the South African system of apartheid. The South African government responded by revoking her passport in 1960 and her citizenship and right of return in 1963. As the apartheid system crumbled she returned home for the first time in 1990.
Makeba died of a heart attack on 9 November 2008 after performing in a concert in Italy organised to support writer Roberto Saviano in his stand against the Camorra, a mafia-like organisation local to the region of Campania.

I’m a South African who has loved this lady from my school das, listening to her on the radio. ❤😂
Africans forget heroes and heroines such as this iconic woman. A statue of Miriam Makeba should be raised high by the best port in most African countries, especially South Africa

Me ❤️
I remember the times that my parents would sit me at the record player and play the songs and they made me remember this song in particular and I learned that the Phoneticaler song never really knew what the words were but I just felt it in my soul at the age 5 and six when both of my parents died my mother first she died at 51 and I sat over her body in the morgue and I sang this song to her who would’ve known the blessing that I gave her and our family. Many years later my father passed away in my arms and I sang this exact same song to him and I felt the presence of God as he took his last breath sometimes your parents know more than you think they know obedience out weights sacrifice thank you Mama Africa.

How beautiful. ! And if you notice..., there's only ONE voice singing, so precise the voices that is so congruous, SO exact. 👍 2 months later... Complete beauty, from sounds of music to performers so enjoying their singing... What and how can governments who deplore this sweetness exist. ? (BUT THEY DO AND WILL DO, thanks to some of us inexplicable humans. 😫)
I love this song remind me much of growing up with this song play all time in my father's stereo. Who is still with me here in 2020 and may the souls of all the departed once that performed here in graceland album rest in peace Amen. One Africa, long live Africa

Hermosas voces!!! Escucharlas me pone la piel de gallina. De pequeña escuche Pata Pata versión español y no supe de su intérprete original hasta que vi la película Serafina. Gran mujer Miriam Makeba.
I like African songs & l love the way they dance. Wow! they can move so gracefully.
Love and miss you Mama Africa❤❤❤❤
Her music was in our house since the 60s. One my moms favourite . Grateful got to see her in Edmonton live the week after my mom passed . It was a very bittersweet concert to attend that eve with my dad who had gotten the tickets to surprise my mom with . First week nov 2001 .
As a Caribbean child and now woman me and my Grand pa would jam to his even if we did not understand the words! Yet it felt so good in the soul! RIP GRAMS always on my mind

AFRICAN QUEEN MOTHER. Blessed Africa. Blessed LOVE to the WORLD.
Wow! Beautiful
I was extremely lucky to be able to attend this concert in my hometown Barcelona. We did enjoy every minute of it.
Mama Africa. African song is not always about love or sexualism. See the serenity in her voice. Song of oppressed. That what makes them different from contemporary artist.
Many African American children in the 70's may not have been taught much about Africa but WE DID come to know about "Mother Africa" from South Africa, the late Mrs. Miriam Makeba!!!!! YES!!!!!!
The language is so beautiful
Lovely voices. We miss this such beauty.
Sad fool I am to have neglected my African darling. Just a kuli Durban ou, who knows her history with Sunny Pillay and African Jazz in the 50ties.🙏🙏
Thanks for this uploading! Absolutely enjoyable
