    It's built like this, so you can always fine-focus wide open, and then immediatly close it down to the pre-set aperture.

    The 2 ring aperture is easy to use, once you understand it. Basically: set the aperture used to take the shot. Then open wide to focus, and stop down to the set aperture when taking the shot. The idea is to make it easier to focus manually as more light is let in when widen open.

    I have just ordered a Mir 1B as a ‘new old stock’ item direct from a Russian seller. This was after weeks of research for the kind of specific optical qualities that I am looking for. It’s greatest attraction is subtle three dimensional separation in low light with amazing colour that needs careful grading.

    The purpose of the locking ring is to allow more light in the camera while trying to focus without stop looking through the viewfinder.For example if you want to shoot at f5,6, you turn the focus ring at 2,8 , you aim and focus and then turn the ring back, it will stop at 5,6.People shooting old film cameras will understand better.

    Hi, I can explain about that “inverted” f in that Lens also in Helios working same they have one ring for select the aperture for example you select 16 with the lock of FX but you will see is still open their idea was with the other ring only close and open aperture for you make focus with full open aperture make your composition and after quickly turn all the ring who actually control the aperture to the aperture who you select and make the shoot( I hope I explain nice English is not my native language, this explanation I got here in Russia where I live from a old photographer in camera store)

    @@MarcoAries Thank you for your review Marco. It's very interesting. Regarding the aperture numbers, I think you guys are missing the point.... the aperture's numbers are inverted because this one, like the Helios 44 and others, is a Cine lens. In Cine lenses, meant for serious photographers and videographers, the numbers represent the amount of light that gets to the sensor, so a higher number corresponds to a higher amount of light getting into the camera. Not sure why this type of lenses were introduced and designed as such, but I'm guessing that this was meant to be a more intuitive system (I know we are accustomed to the opposite way of doing things, but really it makes more sense to have higher numbers when more light is allowed to get through)

  • @MarcoAries

    @MarcoAries

    2 жыл бұрын

    I will eventually have to try a focal reducer/speedbooster, but I just don't like the idea of changing the look of a lens by adding more glass. On the other hand, I have no idea why they decided to set the minimum focusing distance at 70cm while it works fine at a closer range. My copy is in perfect conditions, but I might get a second one to try the min focus and the reversed front mods!

  • @kainbre

    @@MarcoAries first believe me.. I know in theory adding a more glass more problems, but.. In real world i don't see the difference. Only i got more from mine lens because now you use all of your glass, bad parts as well, but that makes vintage lens a charm.. Swirls, crazy bokeh and all :)

  • @MarcoAries

    @MarcoAries

    2 жыл бұрын

    It's an adapter with an optical element inside that makes the field of view of the lens wider and focuses more light into the sensor, to put it simply. When using full frame or vintage lenses on an APS-C or MFT it sensor makes it closer to what it looks on a full frame sensor or 35mm film.

    Be careful, tho, many will deteriorate the quality of the image produced by the lens. Look them up before buying 😉

  • @MarcoAries

    @MarcoAries

    2 жыл бұрын

    Because the glass element might not be of the best quality and you basically end up putting a bad lens between your nice lens and the sensor. I can't suggest anyone in particular, as I don't use them, but maybe @kainbre here can.

    You're using the aperture wrong. The aperture clicks as normal and you set that to what you want. The click-free ring is there so that when set to f16 etc you can open up the aperture (turn all the way to the left) and focus then close it off again (turn all the way to the right). It's like the auto/manual setting on western lenses. This lower ring won't go past the aperture set by the aperture ring, is if it's at F4 then it will only open up to F4 Videographers have been using it with the aperture set to f16 then using the bypass ring to actually open and close the aperture because this is then clickless (i.e.the wrong way) - if you want to use it like this then you can add tape or paint markings on the the front of the barrel just past the aperture values. Set the aperture to F16 (i.e. the F16 is next to the topmost red mark(, turn the ring ( the one just below the aperture values) all the way to the right and mark it off. Repeat this for the other aperture settings and you now have your marks for using it the wrong way. By the way - its actually the Mir 1V as the text is in the Cyrillic alphabet and the B is pronounced V
