Excellenty explanation for beginners, ❤❤❤, BTW, your chords are so smooth, guess you set them to a compromised tuning there.❤ myself using a complete set of nat. minor harps, also set of melodymakers, which are also easily to go for in diff. minor positions. using OB/OD's the world is open esp pop, jazz and classic. found just blues and country better with Richter tuning.THANKS foryour wonderful work, you are tha Buddha in your barge❤

Hmm...Is Summertime in D minor? Is it in the Dorian mode? Just curious!

I think summertime has been recorded in a few different keys. I think it may in natural minor /aeolian with bluesy stylings.

Hmm...Is it a trick question? Why do you say go back a tone to play in 3rd position, but it sounds like you go back a tone and a half from C to D minor?

Not a trick question, but I may not have explained it that well ;) If I want to play with someone who’s in D minor and I need to figure out which harp to use I go back a tone from the key. D to C is a tone, so therefore I need a harp in the key of C.

Wouldn’t 3rd position harp actually be Dorian?

Technically yes, but it can be somewhat limiting to think of positions only from a modal perspective. I like to think of the mode as the 'parent' scale but not forgetting there are many scales available in each position depending on which octave you're in. i.e in first position the Ionian/major scale is the parent scale but I can also play a mixolydian scale and blues scale depending on which octave I choose, and with overblows/draws I can play any scale. hope this is useful :)
