Minnewaska, NY - Its Best Mountain Bike Trail!

Minnewaska State Park is a beautiful park in the state of New York. From its cliffs you can oversee the Hudson Valley, Catskill Mountains, ride around its lakes, streams and waterfalls. One route is especially attractive because of its scenery and ease. Today we are riding from Lake Minnewaska towards Castle Point (the highest point with beautiful views) down to and around Lake Awosting and continue all the way down to Awosting Falls. During the short uphill we are constantly distracted by scenic view points, and after reaching Castle Point we have many miles of riding down hill (or flats) are ahead of us... Type I Fun Day as it should be.

Great video. I prefer to leave the masses at Lake Minnewaska and venture out to Lake Awosting. The swimming is better and less crowded. You should check out Rainbow Falls. It is a great spot to cool off with a natural shower.

We have hiked Sam's Point several times, but even though biking is allowed on Sam's Point side, it is a bit limited. If i remember correctly, they only allow you to do the "loop" trail -- the long way to the top and around the lake, but you are not allowed to bike on the direct path between parking lot and the highest point. That is only for hiking. You are also not allowed to bike from Sam's Point to the rest of Minnewaska park (Awosting Lake, Minnewaska Lake, Waterfall and that whole section). That connecting trail is also for hikers only. So for these reasons we never really brought our bikes to that part of the park. But I researched on "gravel biking" websites, and some people provided some interesting ideas, how to connect Ellenvile with the rest of the park. So maybe one day.... :P
