Through multiple viewings of the series, Lyla has been both my most liked and disliked character. She was at times the brightest, cutest, most loyal, and other times the most annoying, self-righteous and stuck-up. That all speaks to Minka's talent as an actress. But after watching this interview, I just love the totality of her heart. What a beautiful and gracious human being.

The "I need to go pray" scene is one of my all time favorites. Lyla was so important to me as a young person, the way she stood her ground and wasn't afraid to be herself was amazing to see ❤

Let’s go!!! As someone who was born disabled I related to Jason. I loved his relationship with Lyla so much so that I named one of my characters in a book I’m writing Lyla. Lyla and Jason’s relationship is very beautiful. The way it changes and evolves as they mature is absolutely beautiful.

This episode was one of the best yet. Minka's honesty was elevating. Not to bash Mae, but when she's co-hosting, there's so much irony, jokes, ranting... How genuine Minka is, how she opens up, how the three are real with each other, is so good. Great conversation, great dynamic. Wish it lasted longer!

Topic Ideas: - When / how you got your SAG card - Audition (and head shot) horror stories and best stories (and parts of the audition process the average non-person wouldn't know) - 6 degrees or less of separation (surprises you discovered about who you worked with and worked with them before or after you, interesting or serendipitous connections in the industry, etc.) - How you cope with being really close to people for several years and then move on to another project? (if and how you maintain relationships or deal with the grief of changing shows/projects) - Any funny stories you have of being up against the same actors (same "type") for numerous roles on numerous projects (forming friendships or staying distant in adversarial relationships, if your "type" has changed and why, etc.) - Why you feel the strike is important and wishlists for what you wish was different in the industry - Managers and agents (What do they actually do? What makes a good one? Why would you change? Why would you pick one manager /agent over another?) - Best non-show memories in TX or what your connection to TX since the show - What is it like to attend a major awards show? - What kind of networking is important to do as an actor (especially before you are well known) to advance your career, connect with directors or casting agents, etc.?

Loved, loved, loved this interview, the three of you have such a gorgeous friendship, thanks for giving us a window into it :) I was really interested in what Minka had to say about the similarity between therapy and acting. I’m a therapist and an actor (more of a hobby) and I’ve always thought the thing that helps me be a good psychologist and an actor is the same - being able to understand a person, make meaning, understand how someone thinks. I would love to hear more about the acting process and creating a character. How much of you goes into your character? Have you ever had to play a character who is so opposite to who you are and how did you do it?

    1) Regretfully, it is not mentioned here but Minka's memoir is out and it is AMAZING. Stop whatever you are doing and go get it. One of my favorite books of the year, easily. 2) For future episode, can you talk about the podcast itself? How did it come to be? How in the world did you get Zach onboard (heh)? When do you actually record? How do you go about getting sponsors (which seemed to have increased) What have you learned since you started? 3) Minka, Zach, and Scott all have lovely voices 4) additionally, Zach, we need you to work through how you got to the show because like everyone else you clearly were made for your role. Can't wait to get to the "everyone leaves me" episode and, of course, The Son. Emmy worthy.

Here are some topics I've thought about as I've watched the podcast: 1. It seems like a lot of yourselves was poured into the characters, but how do you know when to stop and how do you figure out how to evolve a character without introducing more or too much of yourself into that character? Obviously, writers are critical, but actors have a role to play as well. 2. If, knowing what you know now, you could rewrite season 2 to be more... better... which major story beats would take out and which would you add? 3. How do you figure out how you're going to portray a character? What are your considerations and what's your process to decide on a direction? 4. Do you think a show like FNL still works today? The best part of the show is the realism, but I wonder if how people live their lives today has changed enough to where the show would need to majorly change to have the same impact on today's audiences. 5. Did you struggle with any kind of typecasting after FNL? What would you do differently, if you could, post-FNL in terms of your career? 6. Maybe this is inappropriate, but I'd love to hear what the issues SAG-AFTRA are striking about mean to you and how they affect you personally. 7. Which in-and-out characters would you have liked to see larger storylines for and what would those storylines look like? I've personally got Santiago in mind. 8. I'd love to hear a deep dive about your hobbies. Scott with his comics and Zach with his outdoorsy-ness. Tbh I'm blanking on May's outside interests. 9. If you could get the FNL cast back together to do a show, what would that show be about and why would it work with those same people? 10. With the cast seemingly being so close, were there every any tense moments where folks' relationships weren't in a good place, but they had to work through it anyway? If not, has that happened in your career and how do you get through not liking someone, but still working with them anyway and not letting it seep in? My thought is that in highly scripted works it's maybe easier, but it seems like anything improv heavy would be tough.

Clarifying question - FNL Season 2 premiered in the 1st week of Oct 2007, and I'm guessing a lot of the episodes for Season 2 were written before then. The strike happened in Nov 2007, so well after some Season 2 episodes had been written/shot. The strike has always been blamed for the whole murder storyline (and some of the other Season 2 oddities), but it seems to me like the writers and production crew had already shot/written/mapped out a lot of the Season 2 craziness before the strike even happened. Was all strangeness of Season 2 a result of the strike, or (what I'm beginning to think) the result of NBC not knowing how to market FNL for optimal ratings and trying to overly dramatize things hoping to get more viewers?

I found this show by accident one day. I told my wife about it. I played football, she was a cheerleader. I knew she would like it. And she did, until this little girl came on screen. We all know just what a stunning person she is. Remember I said my wife was a cheerleader. Well there's more. She went to a rich school. Mine was next door to hers. We were a poor country school. And her school was really crappy too everyone. But they really hated us. But she was so good looking. She hands down won football homecoming queen. She also thought gymnastics. Yeah, so she was so flexible and strong. But drop dead beautiful and tan. My point: I was married to my fantasy girl. I was very happy with my wife. No one else has made her jealous. But this lady. And I can see why. But sense Riggens was also on the screen. It made it ok too watch. I would tell her, if you don't mind your business. I'ma pack up and I'm off to Cal. To find this young lady. And leave you behind. And I'll give your number to Riggens.😮❤❤ And they call her. LYLA 😮

Scott, With the FNL chatter hiatus, would you be willing to speak on your journey dealing with Parkinson's Disease? Context for the ask, I work in high school Special Education (2005- present), I had a student with Parkinson's, I was at her bedside at the end. Further personal backstory, I was referred to FNL during s3, as s3 4 and 5 aired, I had always asked myself why wasn't there any special education storyline or representation in a HS show such as FNL? As I followed Katims next project to Parenthood, I realized why, as it would be given a main storyline.

My ideal is kinda like from Talking Dead with the Walking Dead series; Show an episode of Friday Night Lights from the pilot and have a guest star from the show talk about the episode, and go from there. Sorry if I'm long winded, but I did watch the entire series, and enjoyed it.

I am not sure, but I do not believe that you would be in opposition to the standing of the unions if you spoke about the show but I also I am not sure if the podcast is SAG. I say that only because there are waivers been given for films to shoot that are coming out of some of the studios so it would be and should be Null and void to the progression of the strike and it’s subsequent meaning for you all to be able to talk about the show. Sincerely a fellow actor who understands the plight, God bless you and when I say God I mean Jesus❤️

How can you just make yourself cry? That seems really difficult. I wouldn't be able to do it.

At first I thought it was just gonna be scott and Minka talking and I was going to be like okay does zach and Minka hate each other or something because they didn't have one scene in the whole show. I think the only scene they shared together that didn't involve football was Matty dad funeral

For one person who has been following the strike, I knew that actors can't promote any, yes that means a show that will celebrate 17 years when it first aired, because the show is now on streaming services. It is one of many sticking points to the strike of actors not seeing any money when a show goes to a steaming service. So, talk about your love for comic books.

I just discovered this podcast. It was so disconcerting watching Zach on the Criminal Minds reboot. "Wait, Matt Saracen is a serial killer?"
