In Ireland, taxis are considered Small Public Service Vehicles (SPSV) and to operate an SPSV, you need a specific license which is handled/regulated by the National Transport Authority (NTA), so they fall under public transport here. Even services like Uber, Bolt & FREE NOW are SPSVs regulated by the NTA.

In Ireland, taxis have to apply for SPSV licences which are Small Public Service Vehicles licences so by definition in Ireland they are public transport. Based on the fact that anyone of the public can hail one.

about the debate with public transport...taxi can't be with trains and buses as with those you can't choose the path only the destination (where you get off) nor the time it comes ..taxi and even scooters although they are a public service to help getting around (ironically when public transport fails you)..they are more a luxury option you are paying for and have the freedom of going where you want when you want in any direction you want.... if you think of them as modes of transport, taxi is a car, lime bikes and scooters exist as well and are valid ways of getting around but they aren't shared by everyone at the same time in the same paths together . public transport a means of getting around available to the masses

New Orleans is actually a beautiful city and has an amazing culture, it has a lot of fun partying too. I will say that it is more of a 3-4 day trip than other places but well worth a visit.

When you said the “it’s just the same vlog with different angles” part all you guys audience would enjoy that and wouldn’t mind it at all if anything it’s more fun to se all of your different perspectives you should give it a try, I remember it would happen all the time with your old videos and we would get to see some same clips in different perspectives in you guys groups, like in some of freezys and tobets old videos

Oxford languages definition of public transport is this: "public transport noun buses, trains, and other forms of transport that are available to the public, charge set fares, and run on fixed routes." So a cab would be failing the 'set fares' and the 'fixed route' criteria going by that.

A taxi company is a public service, if its designated as a "Public service" it would be considered Public transport. Even Guinness book would recognise that it would depend on the challenge. For your next challenge limit the use of an official taxi to half the time of others.

What Nick said about the taxis should end the debate. Public transport literally means public - which is stuff owned by the government/city. So taxis, ubers or whatever that you hire from a private company/person by definition isnt public.

Yeah taxis / Uber / Lyft / Lime bikes are not public transport, they are private transport - from a global travel consultant. Public transport is transportation where more than one person / one group of people can travel at the same time on a fixed route & a fixed timetable.

To me public transport = mass transit. Buses, large aircraft, trains, ferry’s. If you can’t carry at least 20 people, it’s not public transport. Cruise ships also don’t count because they are solely for recreational use.

Public transports are government or local/city owned and run. If its a private business then its not public. Another way to look at it, if its not costing taxpayer money then its not public transport. Edit: Turns out this is absolutely incorrect. Its transportation that is widely available for public use and can transport groups of people. Airline might be considered public transport in some instances, but a private jet is not. As far as taxis and ubers, it seems to depend. In general, no as a cab driver can look a customer up and down then deny them on a whim like a private business, but they've been implemented in some circumstances as public transportation. At least this is my understanding after some quick checking. My first thoughts on it though were completely incorrect from what I can tell.

its quite an interesting 'discussion' really. like where is the line between public vs private? from what ive seen, in the uk, train tickets across the country (from one city to another) are extremely expensive, they are owned by private companies, and only a limited % of the population could afford certain routes. So its interesting, because its obviously still public transport, but the 'public' that is using it is very limited. It would make more sense to me if it was as you said, and if it was government funded or at least regulated at affordable prices for the majority of the public, then its 'public transport'.
