Minimalist Travel | Waymark Dark Sky Daypack

We took the new Dark Sky Daypack from Waymark Gear out for a little spin, five days in Colorado hiking, peak bagging, trail running, and cruising around Boulder Colorado on foot in the evenings. Not only did the pack perform perfectly, but it also helped us cancel out all the carbon emmisions from our trip to Colorado AND make a donation to on going relief efforts for flood victims in Pakistan. Waymark also donates a portion of each sale from Dark Sky Packs to the International Dark Sky Association!

I do not except money for positive reviews. I give my honest opinions good or bad for all pieces of gear with no exception. Occasionally I may do a "First Look" review of a NEW piece of gear, but I will always state that in the video.

Few years ago I took a family trip to Mexico and discovered my plan ticket cost could be greatly reduced by not having any "carry on" I then proceeded to shop everywhere around town for a small duffel bag that fit the "free/person item" description. Ended up with a perfect little Nike gym duffel and was able to pack everything I needed. Fast-forward a few years and I'm now an avid long distance backpacker and I would love to use this as a travel bag! I'm so glad you mentioned that it works for fitting as a personal item. I've used the Waymark mile for a long time as a weekend pack/day pack and I was thinking there wasn't any point in getting the Darksky for another day pack but I'm sold on the travel aspect of it. Thank you for the review!

I have a question: What do you use the shock cord for? Do you think there's a way to attach trekking poles to the pack? I have the Dark Sky too and I guess it could kinda work with the shock cord..? Thanks!

We've used it to attach all sorts of things.... small sitpad, a rolled up jacket, a beach towel, a helinox chair, an umbrella, etc. I suppose you could stow trekking poles. They might stick out slightly on both sides. Let me know how it goes.

@@TheUltralightMindsetThanks for the quick reply! I haven't actually used trekking poles up until now but I'm thinking about buying z fold ones (went on 2 hikes where I had 1 pole and it is much more fun to hike with that added support). The z fold ones shouldn't stick out too much - though I wonder how secure the attachment is going to be. Luckily I can just try it out with ones from the store I work at :) I'll report back!

Nice video. Yes, airlines have gone over the edge with their fees. I travel with only personal-sized items now-I have an Osprey Daylight Plus and a Travel Pro rolling case that both qualify. (BTW, I hike with a Waymark Thru 40 and tent with a SMD Lunar Solo that I bought after watching your review-thanks!)

@@TheUltralightMindset I’ve used my Lunar Solo only on back yard overnights so far, but really like it. Can’t wait to try it out on a real hike. The sil-poly fabric retains much less water than my sil-nylon BA Fly Creek did. I use a 12” x 12” piece of“Sham Wow” to soak up the Florida condensation-it’s light and absorbs water like nothing else I’ve seen. Keep up the good work!

Liked the review of the pack. The beginning, Not so much. Maybe a separate video. That would be worth investigating if all the gear we use is really environmentally responsible or is it just marketing tactics or lesser of evils?

Yea, it was a lot to get through in the beginning but there will definitely be more focus on the environment and social impacts of everything I do going forward.

I appreciate the effort to help the environment but you repeating it some many times that pretty much sounds like "virtue signaling" like: "hey look at me, I'm green, I'm cool". Similar to what people do in social media when they put some new movement post they don't understand to look good . I'm Not saying that's what your are doing but that's the optics from this side. If you mentioned it just a few times it sounds elegant and looks like your are doing it from the bottom of your heart and genuinely help and not to look good.

Interesting. Always great to get feedback from all angles. I was trying to point out that everyone has the ability to reduce their impact by making certain choices. Some, even as simple as the size of their luggage. I felt that message was just as, if not more important, than the review of the pack...👍
