Concrete Box House, designed by Robertson Design and completed in 2015 in Houston, Texas, is a remarkable example of modern architectural design focused on three key concepts: a carefully choreographed entry sequence, material clarity, and sculptural presence. The structure consists of a concrete box, a wooden box, and a low concrete wall enclosing the entry courtyard. The entry path, designed to enhance the sculptural nature of the building, leads through overlapping concrete walls into a sanctuary-like courtyard before reaching the front door. Inside, a transition from a low-ceilinged, dark entry hall to a bright, tall main space filled with natural light and expansive views creates a striking experience. The first floor is an open space with subtle level changes distinguishing dining, kitchen, and living areas, while a hidden office behind sliding walls offers functional flexibility. The second floor contrasts sharply with the lower level, featuring simple and bright white rooms. The Concrete Box House not only showcases material beauty and innovative design but also provides a source of inspiration for home design enthusiasts.
